Organization (PTO) meets
Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. in the
school cafeteria.

"kid's only" to shop for Christmas
presents, was to begin Wednesday,
Nov. 30, in the school library and continue
through the PTO meeting, said
Principal Clara Carter.
At the meeting a Christmas program
will be presented by the school
M chorus, she said.
Also, Bill Turner, an assistant
superintendent, will discuss asbestos
in the schools, noting that asbestos
poses no problem at Union Primary.
William Harrison, assistant
superintendent in charge of curriculum,
will be present and
available to talk to parents.
Several awards will be presented,
including recognition of Nicole
Faircloth, the student who submitted
the winning school mascot?the
dolphin, and cookie sales performers.
Joe Stevenson is president of the
PTO.
f Fort Will Host
Program
The Fort Fisher State Historic Site
near Kure Beach will host a
Christmas Open House on Saturday,
Dec. 3, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The visitor center will be decorated
for the Christmas season with native
greenery and fresh fruit. Traditional
holiday refreshments will be
available for sampling.
Entertainment for the program includes:
Laney High School Chorus
and Ensemble at 1 p.m.; Coastalina
Chorus of the Sweet Adelines Inc. at 2
p.m.; La Musique Club of Carteret,
who will present Civil War-era
music, at 3 p.m.; and Carolina Beach
Elementary School Chorus at 4 p.m.
Two costumed guided tours around
the remains of the fort will be offered
at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
No admission will be charged for
the open house.

Agricultural Extension Service again

benefit the local 4-H youth program.
According to Associate Extension
Agent Billy Privette, trees from the
local agricultural office's demonstration
plot at the county complex in

Over the past four years, the project
has raised at least $1,000 each
year for 4-H, Privette said. About 50
trees have been sold each year.
After the drawing is held, the trees
will be cut by members of the
agricultural office. However, individuals
will be allowed to dig up
their tree if they wish to keep it alive
for transplanting later, he added.
Individuals who wish to buy one of
the trees should contact the
Brunswick County Agricultural Extension
Service at 2534425 or mail
their name, address and telephone
number to the extension office in
Bolivia.
