Aldermen decided Monday night to support the community-wide cleanup and appointed member Ada McDonald to head the campaign on behalf of the town. Alderman Marion Davis, who proposed the project, said it would show that the people care about the appearance of the town. "I feel like this ? ??* ' ? uuuiu uc a glCdL CLLUI I, lit; SclIU. Although details were not worked out this week, board members indicated that they hope to get youngsters involved in the cleanup, possibly by offering a prize to the one who collects the most trash. There was also talk of holding a free hot dog dinner following the roadside sweep. Discussion of the cleanup came during the board's 40-minute meeting at Gospel Center Baptist Church. The full board and three town residents were present. In other business, Mrs. McDonald reported that the recently-formed town welcoming committee she leads has made good progress in the past few weeks. Mrs. McDonald said she has recruited five residents to assist her in greeting newcomers and that she expected three families to be moving into town shortly. Also, she said all of the businesses in the community are willing to donate fruit baskets, which will be given to new neighbors. The baskets will also contain information on area churches and businesses. "I was really pleased with the response that I got," she said. Mayor Pro Tem Ennis Swain also reported Monday that the budget and finance committee had met once since its appointment in November and still had some work to do before submitting a proposed budget to the full board.
