A free seminar on the Principles
Approach for home and church

Teaching the seminar will be
Stephen K. McDowell, executive
director of the Providence
Foundation of Charlottesville, Va.
The approach teaches a child to
reason Biblically in all areas of life,
a news release indicated, making
the Bible the basis for all subjects in
the school curriculum.
Cape Fear Alliance Church is

Women's Union Set
The Ocean View Missionary
Baptist Association's Women's
Union will be held at New Mt. Zion
Church on Saturday, Sept. 2.
Louise Gause will direct the
Young Adult Department; Gregory
Hewett of Cedar Grove will
minister the Word; and the Youth
Department will present the
afternoon inspirational program
under the direction of Arvclla
Marlowe, Dorothy Lee Frink and
Tania Butler, president. Lunch will
be served.
Dinner And Sales Set
Harvest Fellowship Pentecostal
Holiness Church on Gray Bridge
Road off N'.C. 130 east will hold a
barbecue dinner, yard sale and
auction on the church grounds
Saturday, Sept. 2, in a once-a-year
fundraising event.
The dinner and yard sale will be
held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and
will be followed at 3 p.m. by an
auction behind the church. The Rev.
Ray Faircloth, pastor, will serve as
auctioneer.

Singing Set
Oak Grove Baptist Church will
hold a gospel singing featuring the
Macedonia Quartet of Whitcville on
Sunday, Sept. 3, at 6 p.m. The
church is located on Holden Beach
Road.
Council To Meet
The South Brunswick Inter
church Council will meet at Joe's
Barbecuc Restaurant, Shallotic, at
8:30 am. Monday, Sept 1 1 , a week
later than usual due to the Labor
Day holiday.
Programs in which the Council is
active currently include recycling,
assistance to transients in difficulty,
establishment of adult day care and
providing services to residents of
Autumn Care, including a piano for
their use. The Council operates the
Food Bank, to which member chur
ches donate non-perishable foods,
and the Clothes Closet, at the old
Sunnysidc School in Shallottc,
which makes available good used
clothing at no charge to those who
need it Closet hours are 9 a.m. until
noon each Saturday. Donations of
good, clean used clothing arc

said Isobcl Bcebe, Council secre
tary.
The Council is comprised of cler
gy and lay persons from a number
of churches in the South Brunswick
Islands area. Anyone interested in
joining is invited to attend on Sept.
11.
The Council usually meets the
first Monday of each month.
Chicken BBQ Set
Ocean View United Methodist
Church at Yaupon Beach will hold
an old-fashioned chicken barbecue
dinner on Friday, Sept. 1, starling at
11 a.m. at the r.hnrrh
A half-chicken with fixings will

Accepts Call
The Rev. Bryan Dosher of Oak
Island has accepted a call as interim
pastor at Sabbath Home Baptist
Church near Holden Beach. A
Brunswick County native, he is a
member of Bethel Baptist Church,
Southport.
Dosher has long been retired
from full-time pastorships, but he
lias filled 12 interim positions over
the past 17 years. He has served in
area churches for the past 60 years.

Cedar Grove Baptist Church has
weathered the storms of life for
more than 117 years. It has seen

members go to

Homecoming Day. This year the
program begins with Sunday School

assemble for the ministry in music

Gause, ministering in the Word.

Cemetery Cleaning
Set For Saturday
Volunteers are sought for the fall
clean-up of the Griffin Cemetery at
Ash.
Spokesman Doris Gore said any
one with family members or friends
buried in the cemetery on Mill
Branch Road (S.R. 1332) is asked
to bring mowers, rakes, clippers
and other tools to spruce up the
grounds. Work will begin at
approximately 8 a.m.

ANNABELLE R. MASLINE
Annabelle Reed Maslinc, 73, of
Sea Trail community. Sunset Beach,
died Aug. 25 at her residence.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, on April
26, 1916, she was the daughter of
the late Horace W. and Anna
Kessler Reed.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Charles A. Masline. in
1973.
She was a member of Calabash
Presbyterian Church and its
building committee. American
Business and Professional women's
Club, North Myrtle Beach, S.C.,
Windy Hill Garden Club, Windy
Hill, S.C., Sunset Sands Garden
Club and Sea Trail Property Owners
Association, Sunset Beach.
Survivors include a daughter,
Pam McGuirt of Midland; three
sons, Richard C. Maslinc of
Valencia, Ca., Don Masline of
Herndon, Va., and Jeff Masline of
Jamestown; a sister, Phyllis Kali
man of Palo Alto, Calif.; five grand
children and two great-grandsons.
THELMA M. HAUSE
Thelma M. (Tedi) Draughon
Hause, 79. of Yaupon Beach, died
Aug. 24 in Trenton, Fla.
The funeral was held Aug. 26 at
Ocean View United Methodist
Church, where she was a member,
with the Rev. Mark Kasper
officiating. A graveside service was
held in Grcenlawn Memorial Park,
Wilmington.
Born in Holly Springs on Nov.
19,1909, she retired in December
1971 after a 30-year career in civil
service with the U.S. Government.
Of that, 15 years was with the U.S.
Army Signal Corps at Fort Bragg
and Philadelphia, Pa., from World
War II until July 1954. The balance
was spent as an import specialist
with the U.S. Customs Bureau in
Philadelphia, Pa.
She was a member of Women of
the Moose Chapter No. 371 OES,
the American Association of Retir
ed Persons, the National Associa
tion of Retired Federal Employees,
the Senior Citizens Group of Oak
Island and the VFW Auxiliary at
Long Beach.
Survivors include two sons, Rob
ert Jerry Draughon of Newberry,
Fla., and James C. Draughon of
Shreveport, La.; two brothers,
Charles Jack Moore of Yaupon
Beach and James C. Moore of Long
Beach; a sister, Mrs. Alene M.
Rhodes of Raleigh; four grandsons
and four granddaughters; and a
great-grandson.
Memorial contributions may be
made to Long Beach Volunteer Res
cue Squad.
SAMUEL B. "BUNN" FRINK
Samuel Benjamin "Bunn" Frink,
89, of Shoreline Drive, Sunset
Beach, died Aug. 23 in Grand
Strand General Hospital, Myrtle
Beach, S.C. He was a former state
legislator and longtime practicing
attorney in Brunswick County.
A graveside service was held
Saturday, Aug. 26, in the Stanaland
Frink Cemetery at Sunset Beach.
The Rev. Frank Ross officiated.
Bom Oct. 2, 1899, he was the son
of D.S. and Martha G. Frink. He
was a native of Brunswick County.
He was a veteran of the U.S.
Navy, serving in both World War I
and World War II. He also served in
the U.S. Coast Guard, and for 18
months served as captain of the Port
of Wilmington. He was discharged
in 1946 with the rank of senior
grade lieutenant.
Frink was admitted to the North
Carolina State Bar in January 1931.
During his nearly 60 years in the
legal profession, he was associated
with most of the men engaged in
the legal profession in Brunswick
County. He was founder of the law
firm Frink, Foy, Gaincy & Yount,
with ofTiccs in Shallotte and
Southport. He was activc in the firm
on a daily basis, and was well
known for his legal skill as a court
room lawyer.
His legal career was interspersed
with service during six sessions of
the North Carolina General
Assembly, with five of the terms in
the State Senate and one term in the
House of Representatives. His last
legislative stint was in the Senate in
1971-72.
? For many years he was a member
of the board of trustees of Doshcr
Memorial Hospital and of the board
of stewards of Trinity United
Methodist Church, both in
Southport. He served by governor's
appointment on the State Ports
Authority. For 16 years he served as
the county's attorney and also
served as attorney for the Bruns
wick County Board of Education.
He had served on the board of
directors of Security Savings &
Loan Association since 1938.
Survivors include his wife,
Marguerite Weathers Frink; two
daughters, Marion F. Adams of
Virginia and Joanne Herring of
Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four sisters,
Elneta F. Cox and Sue Frink, both
of Wilmington, Gertie Mooncy of
Supply and Frances Martin of
Durham; five grandchildren and a
great-grandson.
Memorials may be made to the
Sunset Beach Volunteer Fire De
partment, Shallotte Volunteer Res
cue Squad or the Calabash Volun
teer Rescue Squad.
ROBERT GLENN BRYANT
Robert Glenn Bryant, 31, of
Northwest community, died Aug.
26 as the result of an automobile
accident.

late Elisha H. and Daisey Donald
son Hunt. She was a member of
Southport Baptist Church and the
Southport Women's Club and
Southport Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband,
William H. Murdaugh Sr. of the
home; a son, William H. Murdaugh
Jr. of Cary; two daughters, Joyce
Nei of Missoula, Mont., and Cathy
Hayes of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother,
Frank Hunt of Charleston, S.C.;
nine grandchildren and three great
grandchildren.

Annie Cooper Hickman, 76, of

the University Medical Center at
Charleston, S.C. She was a retired
nurse.

Church by the Rev. Laurie Evans.
Burial was in the Hickman Family
Cemetery.
She was born in Horry County,
S.C., the daughter of the late John
and Laura Hooks Cooper.

Shape was a retired employee of
the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency.
