Hogan, com mander-in-chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Recruit Trained U.S. Navy Airman Recruit Ste phen O. Perkins, son of William F. and Lois P. Willoughby of Shallottc, has completed recruit training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego, Calif. During the eight-week cycle, he studied general military subjects in preparation for additional training in one of the Navy's 85 basic fields. A 1989 graduate of WCvSt Bruns wick High School, Perkins joined the Navy in August. Deployed To Japan U.S. Marine Cpl. William C. Benton rcccnlly deployed to Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan, while serving with Marine All Wea ther Attack Squadron-332, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point. While on the six-month unit de ployment, the squadron will replace a participating squadron, accept their A-6 Intruder aircraft and con tinue their combat efficiency train ing in the Western Pacific Ocean. Benton is the son of William P. and Gloria J. Benton of Route 3, Shalloltc. A 1982 graduate of West Brunswick High School, he joined the Marine Corps in Sept. 1983. Darr Crowned Brandi Nicole Darr, fivc-month old daughter of Kcllcy and Steve Darr of Shallol tc, was crowned as Miss Palmet to Christmas Bell Nov. 12 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She com peted in the age division for youngsters up to 11 months old and won trophies in the best smile and most beautiful baby categories. She will compete Dec. 3 in the Miss Merry Christmas Pageant in Myrtle Beach. Represents Whiteville Miss Whiteville 1989-90 is Lycia Joncll Ward, an N.C. Teaching Fellow at Mere dith College in Raleigh. A 1989 graduate of Whiteville High School, she is the dau ghter of Paul and Sandra Ward of White- WARD villc and the granddaughter of Lycia Leonard Clifton of Eyota Drive, Ocean Isle Beach, and the late Joel Curtis Clifton.
