Coast Toasters Mark 2nd Year Coast Toasters Toastmastcrs Club celebrated its second anniversary with a buffet dinner Jan. 21 at Sand piper Golf and Country Club near Sunset Beach. Guest speaker was Bill Mintz, a native of Columbus County and a former District 37 (North Carolina) Governor of Toastmastcrs Interna tional. A humorous speaker, Mintz is a member of the Monday Six-O Club in Charlotte. Susan Eggcrt of Shallotte was honored as the club's 1989 Toast master of the Year. Immediate Past President Alan Holden presented the award, which recognizes out standing contributions to the club in terms of meeting participation, lead ership and membership develop ment. Holden also recognized 1990 club officers, while Marcia Warring, to as tm aster for the evening, recog nized the club's charter members. Coast Toasters is one of two Toastmastcrs International clubs in Brunswick County. Members meets at 7 a.m. each Tuesday in Shallotte at the Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Membership is open to any member of the commu nity interested in improving his or her communication and leadership skills. AARP To Present Driving Program A slide program designed to help senior citizens improve driving skills will be presented at the Cala bash AARP meeting today (Thurs day) at 7 p.m. in the Calabash Fire Station. The chapter's annual enrollment and membership drive is under way and all members arc urged to aucnd and bring a friend. Members will be asked to pay dues at the meeting. Refreshments will be served. Births Sellers Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sellers of Ocean Isle Beach have announced the birth of a son, Devin Blake Sel lers, Jan. 21 at 8:55 p.m. in The Brunswick Hospital. Devin weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz. and was 2 i inches long. He has one bro ther. Nicholas Drew Sellers, 3. Betty Causey of Ocean Isle Beach is the maternal grandmother. Paternal grandparents arc Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Sellers of Bolivia. Hankins Pamela Simmons and John Fitz gerald Hankins of Route 2, Supply, have announced the birth of their first child, John Fitzgerald Hankins Jr., Jan. 22 at The Brunswick Hos pital, Supply. Bom at 3:26 p.m., the baby weighed seven pounds, 10 ounces, and was 21.5 inches long. Grandparents are James and Dor is Simmons of Supply, and Elloise Hankins of Bolivia. Gallery Will Host Painting Workshop A silk painting workshop spon sored by Cape Fear Community College will be offered four days over the next two months at Art quest Gallery in Wilmington. Ortrud M. Tyler of Long Beach will tcach the workshop, covering techniques including resist serti, wet in wet, aquarelle and color blend ing. The workshop will be held Feb. 5 and 17 and March 5 and 27. The Rev. Charles A. Smith, unclc of the bride, officiated the double ring candlelight ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Anderson of Ash. Parents of the groom arc Mr. and Mrs. Richard I. Piver of Stuart, Fla. Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of while satin and crystalline organza. It featured a jewel neckline and Titled bodice adorned with Alencon lace and em broidered lace beaded and sequin ncd. The slightly dropped basque waist was accented with crystal and pearl droplets. The skirt was accent ed front and back with jeweled ap pliques. The deep V-back was drap ed with strands of pearls. A double tier of crystalline ruffles formed the front hemline, cascading into a lay ered, ruffled cathedral train. She carried a bouquet of dark pink roses, pink dogwood and ba bies' breath, accented with pearls, pink ribbons and white lace stream ers. Honor attendant was Dclois Long of Ash, aunt of the bride. Other at tendants were Lynn A. Humphrey of Ash and Sonyia Parker of Rose Hill, sisters of the bride; Donna C. Smith of Ash, cousin of the bride; Brcnda Fiver of Ash, sister-in-law of the groom; and Daphne King of Ash, fnend of the bride. The attendants wore rose tca Icngth dresses made by Delois Long and wore pearl necklaces with matching earrings and bracelets. The bride's honor attendant car ried a long-stemmed pink rose and other attendants carried long-stem med pink carnations. Each stem was accentcd with babies' breath and dark pink ribbon streamers. Crystal Rae Pivcr of Ash, niece of the groom, served as flower girl. Her attire was identical to that worn by oilier attendants. Brian Heath Long of Ash, cousin of the bride, served as ring bearer. He wore a charcoal gray tuxedo with tails, with rose accessories. The groom chose his brother, Barry Piver of Ash, as best man. Groomsmen were Don A. Smith, cousin of the bride; Ricky D. Smith, cousin of the bride, Jeremy King and Whitney King, cousins of the groom, and Alan Ward, friend of the couple. All arc from Ash, except for Smith, who lives in Greensboro. The groomsmen wore charcoal gray tuxedos with rose accessories, and the groom wore a charcoal gray tuxedo with tails with rose acces sories. Music was provided by Sandy Duran of Shallotte. Mrs. Betty Gore of Ash, aunt of the groom, directed the wedding. Monica Gore, cousin of the groom, attended the register. On Saturday, Jan. 6, the groom's parents entertained the bridal party with a rehearsal dinner at Zion Bap tist Church. Assisting were Robie Piver, grandmother of the groom; Judy King, Beth Piver, Lena Mac Causey, Betty Gore, Marcell Wil bur, aunts of the groom; and Bill Wilbur, Frank Causey and Wilbur Hcwett, uncles of the groom. After the ceremony, the groom's parents also hosted a reception in the Soldier Bay Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Also hosting were Doris Gore, grandmother of the groom, and Judy King, Betty Gore, Marcel Wilbur, Beth Piver and Arlene Hewett, aunt of the groom. Assisting with decorations for the wedding were Bobbie Piver, mother of the groom, and Judy King, Doris Gore and Betty Gore. The groom is a 1982 graduate of West Brunswick High School, Shal lolte, and is employed with Kevin Piver Construction Co. The bride is a 1987 graduate of West Brunswick High School and is employed with Anderson & Mc Lamb law firm. Following a honeymoon to Or lando, Fla, the two arc residing at Ash. Couple Exchanges Vows Alice K. Carlyle of Leland and Billy H. Turbeville of Wilmington were nulrried Jan. 4 in a 6 p.m. ceremony at The Marriage Chapel in Dillon, S.C. The bride is the daughter of Dorothy Krimminger of Supply and the late James Krimminger. The groom is the son of the late Carl and Ada lurbeviiie. Herb Gardening Seminar Offered Spring herb gardening will be the topic of a seminar offered by the Brunswick County Agricultural Ex tension Service Thursday, Feb. 8, starting at 10 a.m. at the extension office in Bolivia. Margaret Shelton of Shc'.ton. Herb Farm in Lcland will lead the discus sion on planning and planting an herb garden. She will cover selec tion of varieties suited to the area and their care and needs, as well as highlighting some of their uses. The program is open to anyone interested in home herb culture.
