PEOPLE IN THE NEWS 4-H'ers Cited For Records CAISON BUTLER Two Brunswick County 4'H'crs. Amy Caison of Supply and Tania Butler of Shallotlc, were recently recognized for their outstanding 4 H cumulative records. Caison was recognized as a slate winner in the Marine Awareness Project area and also as a district runncr-up in the Electric Program. Butler was declared a district cu mulative record winner in the Clothing Project area and a district runncr-up in Consumer Education. The high school senior's projects document eight active years in 4-H. A 4-H cumulative record pro vides a summary of a 4-H'crs growth and development in a pro ject area and as a person, said Billy Privcttc, Brunswick County 4-H ex tension agent. It helps members to set goals and then strive to 'meet them. Citizenship and leadership ac tivities arc also judged as part of this competition. Dance Students Win Several local dance students were among the winners at the Show stoppers Regional Talent Competi tion held March 31 in Conway, S.C. Megan Farmer of Shallotlc won first place in the characlcr routine solo division for ages six and under and also look third place in the photogenic division. Brandi Harri son of Ash placed third in the solo jazz division for ages six and under. Allysun Abbott of Shallotlc and Tiffany Skaggs of Ash placed second in duct jazz in the age nine division. Kelly Griffin of Shallotlc and Jennifer Rabon and Kelly Stcpp of Holdcn Beach took third placc in trio jazz in the age 12 division. All of the students arc eligible to compete in the East Coast Nationals which begin July 4. Completes Course Staff SgL Gcna L. Curtis has completed a U.S. Army basic non commissioned officer course aimed at helping her develop mid-level management skills to be used in su pervising and training small groups of soldiers in combat specialties. An Army recruiter with the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion in Wilmington, she is the daughter of Elsa M. Smith of Route 2, Bolivia. Listed At ECU Tonncttc Bristow of Letand has been named to the chancellor's list at Hast Carolina University. Green ville, for earning all A's during the fall 1989 semester. Two Participate Army Pvts. 1st Class Anthony C. Murphy and Timothy E. Brown participated in operation "Just Cause" in Panama, which resulted in the ouster of Panamanian dictator Manual Noriega. Brown is an infantryman with the 504th Infantry Regiment at Fort Bragg. He is the son of Russell and Elizabeth D. Brown of Bolivia and a 1988 graduate of South Bruns wick High School. Murphy is a gunner in the 325th Infantry Regiment at Fort Bragg. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Cot ter of Route 1, Lcland, he is a 1989 graduate of North Brunswick High School. Trull Graduates Airman 1st Class Steven M. Trull has graduated from U.S. Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the air man studied the Air Forcc mis sion, organiza tion and cus toms and re ceived special 1 RL'-1 training in human relations. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Franklin Trull of Lcland, Trull is a 1988 graduate of North Brunswick High School. Stanley Selected Bonnie L. Stanley was recently selected as an Outstanding College Student of America for the 1989-90 school year. Selection was based on aca demic achieve ment, merit and - ?? involvement and leadership STANLEY roles in community and school. Stanley is a sophomore at East Carolina University in Greenville, where she is majoring in early childhood education. She is also an ECU Ambassador. A 1988 graduate of West Bruns wick High School, she is the daugh ter of Bun and Dorothy Stanley of Route 3, Shallottc. Bow GRISSETT ling, who re signed earlier this month to acccpt a position with American Family Life Assurance Company of Wilming ton. A Shallottc resident, Mrs. Gris sett has been employed in the coun ty Finance Department for the past 11 years. Before assuming the 521,780-pcr-ycar personnel post, she worked as the county's budget analyst, internal auditor and grants manager. Mrs. Grissett attended Methodist College in Faycttcvillc and received a degree in business management from Shaw University of Raleigh through the college's Cape Program in Wilmington.
