At right is a mixed female sheep dog named liaby, ^ who is extremely outgoing and is a lover of children, and in the T middle is a friendly gray and white 2-year-old cat. There also are other very friendly pels, including a male Irish setter and a solid ^ black cat that will call you over to give her some attention. If not adopted, these pets will be exterminated. Adoption fees, including '' ' ' adopted, these pets will be exterminated. Adoption fees, including rabies vaccination, are $9 for kittens and $12 for puppies. For cats older than ?* months, the charge cannot exceed $13 and for dogs older than 4 months it cannot exceed $22. Eight dogs and three cats were adopted last week. State Order Would Require Schools To Improve Sewers The N.C. Environmental Man agement Commission is scheduled to act on a special consent order next week that would require im provements to the sewer systems at three Brunswick County schools. Waste treatment systems at West Brunswick High School and Wacca maw and Bolivia elementary schools would have to be improved over the next three years under the special consent order, according to Debbie Crane, spokesperson for the N.C. Division ot Environmental Management. The commission is expected to approve the order when it meets Thursday, July 12, at 9 a.m. in Raleigh, Ms. Ciaue saiu. The special consent order, if it is approved, would allow the schools to continue using their sewer sys tems in violation. It would require that the systems be improved and meet the terms of their permits be fore the end of 1993. Ms. Crane said die improved sys tem at West Brunswick High School would have to be operating by Dec. 15, 1991, under the terms of the consent order. Waccamaw's system would have to be improved before lite end uf 1992, ami Bolivia's sys tem would have to be in cornpliancc before the end of 1993. If the school system docs not make the improvements and meet deadlines along the way, Ms. Crane said the suite could levy fines. If the high school's improved system isn't running by Dec. 15, 1991, for in stance, the state could fine the coun ty school system S4,(KK). Johnny Wade Williams, 42, of Shallotte failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Rural Road 1168 and N.C. 179 at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, according to a re port, crossing N.C. 179 and striking *> Mirch Harbor Golf L-inks Williams fled the scene but was stopped a few minutes later by a Brunswick County sheriff's deputy, according to the report. Williams was charged with driv ing while under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, ac cording to the report. His 1983 Ford pickup sustained approximately S2.500 damage, according to the re port. ? ? ? Paul Clyde Stout, 28, of Ash ran off U.S. 17 3.2 miles south of Boli via and his 1988 Chevrolet sus tained approximately 52,500 dam age, according to a Highway Patrol report. Stout said he was driving south on U.S. 17 and looked down and when he looked up, he was on the wrong side of the road, according to the report, which stated he went off the road on the north-bound side. James Barry Smith, 30, of Ash, failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Rural Road 1321 and N.C. 130 at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, crossing N.C. 130 and striking sev eral small trees, according to a Highway Patrol report.
