Teenagers Plead To Misdemeanor Charges In Area Break-Ins Two Longwood teenagers charg ed with the larceny of more than SI 1,000 in property from three area businesses pleaded guilty to misde meanor charges in Brunswick County District Court last week. Both received suspended sentenc es and were given credit for time served in the Brunswick County Jail while awaiting trial. They must re pay the business owners for dam ages and items taken that were not recovered. Grant A. Canficld IV, 18, must spend an additional four days in jail. Judge D. Jack Hooks Jr. ordered. Canficld pleaded guilty to three counts of misdemeanor breaking ami entering and three counts of misdemeanor larceny in a pica bar gain agreement with Assistant Dis trict Attorney Lee Bollinger. James David Whaley, 16, also pleaded guilty to the same charges, but because he spent more time in jail before making bail he was not given an additional active sentence. Both men were given a two-year suspended sentence and placed on two years' supervised probation. Together, they must pay the follow ing businesses for damages and items taken in the November break ins: $1,374.50 to Reed's Country Store in Longwood; $1,288.40 to Brunswick Farm Supply in Ash; and an amount to be determined by probation officers to Mike's Marine of Shallotte. Judge Hooks also ordered that the men not go on or about the property of the three businesses and to re main in school on a full-time basis until each receives a general equiva lency diploma or a high school di ploma, or remain employed full time. They were both fined S250 and ordered to pay $150 in attorney fees to their court-appointed attorney, Michael Ramos. Most of the property taken from the break-ins was recovered by de tectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Department following an anonymous lip received in Decem ber. A number of boat motors taken from Mike's Marine on N.C. 130 west of Shallotte were found hidden in the Nakina area in Columbus County.
