Lower Cape Fear Hospice Will Take Indigent Patients Lower Cape Fear Hospice has be gun accepting patients again who do not have resources to cover the cost of their care. On April 26 directors lifted a mor atorium which was adopted last Aug ust due to financial challenges facing the non-profit agency, which serves Brunswick and five other counties. However, the number of indigent patients served will be limited to 10 percent of the agency's total caseload, according to a news re lease from spokesman Kyle Slaton. This is an attempt to safeguard the agency's improved financial status. Before the moratorium was im posed the percentage of indigent pa tients ? those without insurance or cash to reimburse Hospice for its services ? ran between 35 percent and 55 percent and contributed to the agency's financial problems. The full-service caseload in the service area averages 70 patients per day. Hospice provides a full range of care for patients with Imited life ex pectancies, with the aim of improv ing the quality of life during illness, death and bereavement In addition to insurance reimbur sements, Hospice receives support from United Way, city, county and federal grants; fund-raising events and private and group donations. & Shadows Beautiful new N silk and linen \ lamp shades __j have just arrived.
