Safrit of Salisbury has been selected as the new pastor of St. Luke Luth eran Church in Shallotte. A native of the China Grove area, he was graduated from China Grove High School and Lcnoir-Rhyne College, where he received a B.A. in sociology. He earned his master of divinity in 1969. Safrit's church and work experi ence includes a student church in ternship while at Lutheran Semin ary in 1967-68, service to dual par ishes of St. Peter's, Churchville. Va., and Redeemer, McKinley, Va., from 1969-1971. He then served Good Hope Lutheran Church in Hickory from 1971 to 1977. until going to Christiana. According to a news release, he was active in helping to make that church "a positive involved force in community life in eastern Rowan County." St. Luke's congregation meets at Shallotte Middle School, with wor ship at 10 a.m. and Sunday school at 9 a.m. weekly. Focus On Holy Spirit The Work, of the Holy Spirit will be the focus of a special worship service at Camp United Methodist Church, Shallotte, on Sunday, May 19.
