Lakes Volunteer Fireman Pleads Guilty To Setting Two Fires
A Boiling Spring Lakes volunteer
fireman admitted in Brunswick
County District Court last week that
he set two fires between Boiling
Spring Lakes and Bolivia in March
that each burned about 16 acres.
Ernest Paul Evans III, 20, of
Cambridge Road, Boiling Spring
Lakes, pleaded guilty to two counts
of setting fire to grass, brush and
wood lands.
Judge Napoleon "Poli" Barefoot
Jr. sentenced Evans to four months
in jail, suspended the sentence for
five years and placed him under five
years' supervised probation on each
of the two counts.
He was also ordered to pay S8.309
in total restitution to International
Paper Co. and to Reeves Telecom of
Boiling Spring Lakes.
Evans was ordered to pay $200 in
attorney fees, complete high school
or obtain a general equivalency
diploma, submit to tests, undergo as
sessment within 30 days and pay
cost of court.
He will be allowed to serve %
hours of community service at the
Boiling Spring Lakes Volunteer Fire
Department within six months.
Judge Barefoot also ordered that
Evans lake a tour of a North Carolina
prison unit with his probation officer.
According to the warrants filed by
Carl Hayes, of the N.C. Forest Ser
vice, Evans was accused of starting
fires March 21 on Reeves Telecom
property and March 23 on property
belonging to International Paper.
He was released under S500 bond.
