RELIGIOUS BRIEFS Buddhist Ceremony Marks Association's Third Anniversary On Saturday. July 27, Wat Carolina Buddhajakra Vanaram will commemorate Asalaha Puiiia and Khao Phansa Day, along with the association's third anniversary, starting at 9:45 a.m. Asalaha Pucha commemorates the day Buddha presented the first sermon to the world to follow his path. Khao Phansa is the following day, when Buddha prohibited monks from unncessary travel. At 12:30 p.m., following dinner, a monk will deliver the sermon The Middle Path, with translation into English. Afterwards the ceremony w'ill continue with various offerings to the monks, including funds for continued construction of the tem ple's multipurpose building. Following the ceremony a meet ing is planned to discuss the future construction of the Wat Carolina Buddhajakra Vanaram project. The monastery is located on Mid way Road in Bolivia. The public is invited. Fuson at Chapel Dr. Ted Fuson, a Lutheran minis ter from Woodbridge. Va.. is the pastor of the week at The Holden Bcach Chapel. He will deliver the message Sun day. July 14. at the interdenomina tional chapcl on Rothschild Street. Holden Bcach. Worship services begin at 1 1 a.m. preceded by Sunday School at 10 a.m. Barbecue Slated St. Brendan's Church will spon sor a chicken barbecue dinner, with cat-in or take-out sen ice, July 18 from 1 1 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The menu will include french fries, com, Texas toast and iced tea. Soda will be available for 50 cents a can. Plates will cost S5.50 for adults and S2.50 for children. All proceeds will benefit the church building fund. The church is located on U.S. 17 two miles south of Shalloitc. The public is invited. Time Changes Early worship service at Camp United Methodist Church in Shal loitc begins a half hour later now. As of July 7, the new time is 9 a.m. Also, Sunday school is at 10 a.m. and the second worship service at 1 1 a.m. Gospel Sing Set The Guiiltny Lights of Supply will sing this Sunday, July 14, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Supply. The public is invited to enjoy gosjx'l ministry and music, said spokesperson Martha McGuire. The church is located on U.S. 17 just south of Brunswick Community College. To Host Rally Holy Bethel F.B.H. Church of Thomasboro will host a state rally Sunday. July, 14, starting at 7 p.m. The Rev. Troy Bcthunc of Wilmington will be the guest speak er. The Mr. Holy Bethel Contest will be held as pari of the rally. The win ner will compete in the Mr. Greater Eastern North Carolina Pageant July 20. Convention A bus will leave Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Long wood Tuesday, July 16, at 5 a.m., for the 107th Session of the Women's Home and Foreign Missionary Convention in Charlotte. The couple have served as youth pastors at Eastside Fellowship in Shallotte. Gary attended Bible col lege, where he became involved in an international traveling drama company ministering in prisons, schools and churches. Deaths And Funerals HARRY CECIL MCQUOWN Harry Cccil McQuown, 59, of Route 3. Supply, died July 1. A memorial service was held in Madison, Ohio. Survivors include his wife, Mary Pat McQuown of the home; two daughters, Laura J. Repass of Thompson, Ohio, and Barbara J. McQuown of Ashtabula, Ohio; a sister. Norma J. Krasauckas of Rock Creek, Ohio; and a grandson. HUBKRT RUSSELL SANDERFORD Hubert Russell Sanderford, 76, of Whitcvillc, died July 3. He was a salesman for J.W. Mur chison Company for 30 years. He was a member of the First Presby terian Church of Whitcvillc and the Civitun Club. The funeral was held July 5 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sam Rutland officiating. Buri al followed in the Whitcvillc Mem orial Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Maz zalee Thurston Sanderford of Whitc villc; one daughter, Betty Gail S. Church of Henderson; two brothers, John F. Sanderford of Wake Forest and James L. Sandcrford of Ocean Isle Beach. ELIZABETH MOORE MYERS Elizabeth Moore Myers of Wilm ington died July 8 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was 94.
