Dixie AAA And Major Aii-Star Teams Begin Piay The second of three Dixie Youth Baseball all-star teams from the Shallottc-Supply league begins dis trict tournament action Saturday when the AAA squad (ages 10 and under) opens play at Leland. The Dixie Majors team (ages 11 12) will open district tourney play Saturday, July 20, at host Cape Fear (Castle Haync area north of Wilmington). The Double A all-star team (ages 6-10) lost its first two games last weekend in district tourney play at South port. Leland downed Shallottc-Supply 28-4 on Saturday before Southport eliminated the locals 25-10 on Sunday. Southport took a 9-0 lead in uhc top of the first before Shallotte Supply rallied to tic the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the frame. However, the host team outscored 16-1 in the remaining innings. Cape Fear had defeated Southport in another first-round game on Saturday. The double elimination event was scheduled to continue through this week. Having played for the Double A team were Patrick McDonald, Chad Ivey, Jarcd Ivey, Ryan Carlisle, Jonathon Lewis, David Chadwick, Michael Chadwick, Misty Gore, Brandon Stafford, Lee Chadwick, Reggie Burncy, Kendrick Frink and Justin Fulford. Coaches were Ronnie Scoggins, A1 Fulford and Dink Ward. The Triple A team that begins play Saturday is comprised of Brian Hewctt, Raymond Thompson, Nich olas Carpenter, Lucas Wagcnscil, Paul Powell, Donald Smeigle, Robert Chadwick, David Candela, Adam Long, Jordan Reeves, Joiinny Hickman and Anthony Johnson. Coaches include David Reeves, Ricky Long and Russell Hickman. The Dixie Majors team (ages 11 12) includes John Marshall, Billy Noble, Aqui Bryant, Ray Jay Johnson, Anthony Hcwctt, Brian Inman, Eric Carpenter, Kendal Ward, David Batten, Lonnic McNeil, Daniel Squires and Ahmed Green. Coaching die team arc Jack Powell, Thomas Inman and Don Dostcr. Collier Gas and Shallotte Marine arc serving as the all-star team sponsors. RECREATION BRIEFS County Sets Basketball Camp Brunswick County Paries and Recreation will sponsor a youth basketball camp July 22-26 at South Brunswick High School. Camp is open to boys and girls ages eight to 14. The camp will run from 9 a.m. until noon each day. The S20 registration fee includes a T-shirt and refreshments. For more information, call Joe Rossclli at 253-4357. Elks Win Title The Shallotte Elks beat the Sup ply Seahawks 6^1 to win the Bruns wick County Dixie Boys Baseball Tournament. Final standings were as follows: Supply Seahawks, 11-3; Lcland Bulldogs, 10-4; Shallotte Elks, 9-5; Smithviiie Cubs, 6-o; Town CrecK Bulls, 4-8; Wilmington Esquires, 3 8; and Smithviiie Cougars, 0-11. Attend WOW Camp Twenty-nine boys were among the members -f Woodmen of the World Ranger Youth Lodge No. 1415 of Shallotte to attend the Ed Williams Youth Camp last week. The lodge won first place in sev eral events, with members awarded more than 50 activity patches. Boys attending camp were as fol lows: Trent Hughes, Aaron Evans, Gavin Evans, Ashley Oliver, Jere my Moon, Brian Inman, Creighton Potter and Matthew Potter, Shannon Edwards, Adam Nixon, Heath Car son, Bryant Hogan, Dan Formydu val, Jeremy English and Brian Free man; Also, Martin Callendar, Jeremy Varnum, Mike Fulford, Israel Ken dall, Wesley Moore, Chris Conner, James Cook, Blake Potter. Jeremy Long, Ronnie Fenn, Jarctl Carson, Nathan Francis, Wayne Nixon and Eddie Brock. Fitness Month Noted The Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department celebrated May as National Physical Fitness Month by sponsoring an individual fitness program. Participants were asked to keep a daily log recording mileage in run ning, bicycling and/or walking. At the end of the month, logs were turned in and prizes were awarded for the top mileage recorded in each category. Cliff Justice of Holden Beach re ceived top mileage awards for run ning 130.3 miles and for bicycling 426.6 miles. Victoria E. Smith of Bolivia re ceived the top mileage award for walking 158 miles. Sign Up For Camp The second session of a creative day camp sponsored by the Bruns wick County Parks and Recreation Department will be held August 5-8 at West Brunswick High Schoc! from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
