Kids Reach Out To Other Kids With Sand And Surf Mission

Mission (t'SSM) came to Ocean Isle
Boach for the tirst time last week,
uiih children teaching children about
Jesus "in a creative way."
" lliis is done through the use of
puppets, skits, and songs," said the
the director, the Rev. Steven Boyd,
called Stfuffau' by the children.
"The program involves the entire
audience. F.veryone has an interest
ing team name."
According to Hoyd, the children's
ministry began 130 years ago in
Scotland. It came to the United
Suites in the 1950's.
The ministry consists of one
week programs at different beaches,
including more than 30 missions
this summer along the East Coast.
CSSM is part of the Children's
Ministry in Pittsburgh, Pa.
This is the only ministry this
summer lor Rev. Hoyd, his wife,
Sandra, and the IS child missionar
ics, all of Greensboro.
Lorna Morris of Utile River,
S.C., is responsible for coordinating
the mission at Occan Isle.
Another CSSM was held at
Cherry Grove, S.C., the first week
of July by a different group of
youngsters.
Boyd said the CSSM programs
reach children and adults, with be
tween 20 to 100 children gathering
each morning beneath the bright red
CSSM banner on the strand.
"Local churchcs have brought
kids, and parents often plan their
vacations around the program," he
said.
'The response at Ocean Isle has
not been that great, but it is new to
the area," Boyd continued. "1 am
glad we were able U) come to this
beach and I hope we are back next
year."
The mission met at 10 a.m., with
Bible study at 7 p.m. near the cross
west of the Ocean Isle Beach Pier.
