Leland Man Gets Three-Year Sentence For
Cutting Manager
A Leland man who cut a store
manager on the throat during a j,?ht
in June was sentenced to three years
in prison by a Brunswick County
District Court judge last week
Frederick Wayne Ganey, 30 of
Route 3, was given a two-year sen
tence after he pleaded guiky to mis
demeanor assault with a deadly
weapon. He also received two con
secutive six month sentences after
pleading guilty to two counts of re
sisting or obstructing a police offi
cer.
Judge David G. Wall also ordered
that Ganey receive substance and
alcohol abuse counseling through
the N.C. Department of Corrections
drug rehabilitation treauncnt pro
gram, DART.
Ganey was also ordered to pay
the medical bills or Steven T. Farm
er, store manager at Hill's Food
Store in Leland, who received a 3
1/2- to 4-inch cut on the throat in
the incident that happened June 29
According to Brunswick County
Sheriffs Deputy Steve Mason's re
port, Ganey attempted to purchase
some beer at the store while al
legedly intoxicated.
When a clerk refused to sell him
the beer, Ganey pulled out a large
pocket knife and swung it at Farm
er, who was cut on the right side of
the throat. Mason reported.
