MR. AND MRS. ROBERT ALIJZN GURGANUS ...Dorienne Michele Cosgrove Cosgrove, Gurganus Vows Spoken At Campus Chapel Doriennc (Dori) Michclc Cos grove and Robert Allen Gurganus were married Aug. 3 at the Uni versity of Georgia Chapel in A thens, Ga. The bride is the daughter of Carol Atha Cosgrovc of Atlanta and Earl Cosgrove of Douglasville, Ga. The groom is the son of Kermit and Mary Gurganus of ShaHotte. Didi Cosgrove McDuffie of At lanta, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor. Other bridesmaids were Darci Cosgrove Stratton of Atlanta, sister of the bride, and Kel ly Jones of Shallotte, niece of the groom. Katy Jones of ShaUouc, niece of the groom, served as flow er girl. Best man was Kermit (Kenny) Gurganus Jr. of Wilmington, broth er of the groom. Reggie Smith and Chris Smith, friends of the groom from Shallotte, served as ushers. The Rev. Alex Williams of the University's Campus Ministries of ficiated the double ring ceremony. The bride is a graduate of Lake side High School in Atlanta and re ceived a bachelor's degree in Eng lish at the Universitv of Georgia in 1987. The groom is a graduate of West Brunswick High School and re ceived a bachelor's degree in histo ry from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1986. He is emoloyed by the U.S. Postal Sci vicc at the Shallotte Post Office, where he has been a rural letter car rier for three years. The couple will reside in Shal lotte. County Sets United Way Day Brunswick County employees will hold a United Way Day, Aug. 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the public assembly building at the Government Complex in Bolivia. Open to the public, the informa tion fair will help kick off the 1992 campaign for the Cape Fear Area United Way, which begins Aug. 28, said Jess Parker, United Way coor dinator for the Brunswick County Government Center. He is the grandson of Lola Ward of Wilmington. Mack Ward of Laurinburg, Dora Hughes of Ocean Isle Beach and the late Barney Ludlum. The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her fa ther. .vorc a formal satin and lace gown featuring a wedding band col lar of (varied and sequined Schiffli lace accented w uh dangling pearls. The long pouf satin sleeves fea tured lace appliques at the shoul ders. The bodice was embroidered with a sheer yoke and Schiffli lace dropping into a fitted waistline. The full skirt was bordered with lace appliques in front and edged in scalloped lacc that flowed into a cathedral train of cut-out appliques of Schiffli lace. The bride's headpiece was a satin hat with Alencon lacc, pearls and crystals. The upturned brim in back was accented with silk flowers and pearl sprays on each side, imported silk lilies of the valley, pearl fila ments ami a pouf, with attached fin gertip veil. The bride carried her aunt's wed ding Bihlc and grandmother's lace handkerchief covered with a cor sage of white roses and purple stat icc with satin streamers. Rec "Mimi" Sloan of Wilming ton, aunt of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a tea- length dress of royal purple satin with a white lace bodice, lilted waistline, scal loped sabrina neckline and pout sleeves with bows. She carried one long stem white rose with purple satin streamers. Bridesmaids were Joy Renee Smiih of Wilmington, bcsl friend of the bride; Donna Carol Smiih of Greensboro, cousin of the bride; and Delois Long of Ash, aunt of the bride. They wore tea-length dresses of royal purple satin featuring a scal loped sabrina neckline, pouf sleeves with bows and a fitted dropped waist. They each carried a single long stem white rose with purple satin streamers. The groom wore black full dress by the Robert Wagner Collection. The groom's father served as best man. Groomsmen were Ernest Monroe Smiih Jr. and Kevin Andrew Smiih, brothers of ihe bride; and Timmy Ludlum, friend of the groom, all of Ash. They wore black tuxedos with purple ties and cummerbunds with a single white rose boutonnicrc. Melanie Phillips attended the bri dal register. The wedding was di rected by Alice Smith, aunt of the bride. Immediately following the cere mony, a reception was given by the bride's parents in the church fellow ship hall. The groom's parents entertained the wedding party with a pre-re hearsal cookout and pool party at the Bent Tree Plantation clubhouse Aug. X. The bride was also honored with a miscellaneous shower at Ocean Isle Beach on June 22, given by Yvonne Ward, mother of the groom. Alice Smith, aunt of the bride, gave a surprise miscellaneous shower July 13 in Ash. Phyllis Sloan also entertained the bride with a luncheon shower July 21 in Wilmington. Elizabeth Day gave a bridesmaids' dinner July 27 in Wil mington. To Wed August 27 Tom and Edna Shrader of Princeton, W.Va., have announced the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kate M. Shrader, to James R. White, son of Bob and Hetty White of Hoiden Beach. The couple will be married Tuesday, Aug. 27, in St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands.
