The center offers families an alternative to nursing home placement for an elderly relative, or perhaps delays nursing home placement. Other needs for the new Shallotte site, said Mrs. Shawver, include a rolling desk chair, two office chairs, a filing cabinet, end tables, lamps, pictures, a microwave oven and a 12-cup coffccmakcr. The center also would like a screen to place in front of the closed fireplace, which cannot be used un der state regulations. And Mrs. Shawver said decorative items to make the setting more homelike would also be welcomed. Center volunteers are also accept ing donation of items in good con dition for a yard sale planned later in the year.
