Towns Awarded Planning Grants

North Carolina for land use plan
ning projects.
Boiling Spring Lakes will receive
$5,520, while the local government
will contribute $1,380 to the cost of
the project.
Calabash will get $4,9(X), with a
local match of S2,1(X).
Land use planning enables local
officials to conserve valuable re
sources while guiding community
growth to areas best suited for de
velopment, according to a news re
lease from the N.C. Division of
Coastal Management. The Coastal
Area Management Act plans must
be updated every five years and

Summer curriculum enrollment at
Brunswick Community College this
year is slightly behind that of a year
ago.
Ann Marie Bellamy, public infor
mation officer, said 263 students en
rolled in summer quarter classes,
compared to 272 in the 1990 sum
mer quarter.
Current operating funds arc allot
ted to each community college
based on full time equivalent stu
dents (FIE) generated in the curric
ulum programs for the preceding
academic year. However, Mrs.
Bellamy said summer quarter is not
included in calculations for these
funds.

Used Lumber Daily
The Military Ocean Terminal at
Sunny Point is stepping up sales of
used lumber to the public in order to
reduce its inventories.
Starting Monday, Aug. I4), sales
will be held Monday through Friday
from 8:.M) a.m. to 1 p.m., said
spokesman Myrtle D. Meade. Sales
will continue until further notice.
Cost of the lumber is SI 20 a
cord, with no restriction on length
or size.
