Chamber Execs' Annual Meeting To Be Held Here 1?Y HOLLY RICHARDS, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT South Brunswick Islands Chamber of Commerce When will it stop? Never 1 hope! We pulled off yet another coop for the South Brunswick Islands! While attending the joint NC/SC Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (NC/SCACCE) an nual meeting in Kiawah Island, S.C., our chamber presented a proposal to the NCACCE board of di rectors inviting the groups to have their 1992 NC/SC Chamber annual meeting in The South Brunswick Islands. Guess what? We got the bid! This is quite an accomplishment for our cham ber and will bring more recognition to the South Brunswick Islands. The event will be held at Sea Trail Plantation Aug. 6-8, 1992. It promises to be the best annual meeting these two organizations have ever had. ? ? ; Many of them have never visited any place as RICHARDS beautiful as the South Brunswick Islands. I am confident that our com munity will show my chamber counterparts the same red carpet ucal meni that you have shown me during my first month as your executive vice president. Now let's talk fish. Plans arc continuing for the South Brunswick Islands King Classic on Labor Day weekend. The King Classic Committee is meeting weekly to finalize all the arrangements. Things arc right on schedule for the N. C. Oyster Festival to be held Oct. 18-19. The Oyster Festival has been recognized by Celebration North Carolina as one of the lop festivals in the state. How about that? Thanks to those of you that attended the reception at Sea Trail Plantation on Tuesday Aug. 6. I enjoyed seeing you. It was a most ex citing and memorable evening. A special thanks to hosts Holdcn Bcach General Store and Atlantic Telephone, it was wonderful! BUSINESS BRIEFS Food Service Course Set A training session designed for persons who work in food services will be held Sept. 3-5 at the Cooperative Extension Office in the Agriculture Building at the Bruns wick County Government Center south of Bolivia. The course will discuss measures to take to keep food safe and sani tary. Participants will have the op portunity to receive a five-year cer tification recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Max Gregory, food science ex tension specialist at N.C. State Uni versity, along with representatives from the Brunswick County Health Department and the county exten sion staff, will teach the class. Topics includc foodborne illness, importance of time and temperature in safe food and cleaning and sani tizing. The cost is S60. Clemmons has been named vice president of the residential real estate division of Barnctt Bank of Atlanta. A native of Wi 1m ing ton , Clemmons is the son of the late Floyd B. and Little L. CLEMMONS Clemmons of Supply. He has been in the mortgage banking industry for 12 years, the most recent three years in Atlanta and nine years in Tampa, Fla. He serves on the board of direc tors of the Atlanta Mortgage Consortium, a group of lenders committed to meeting the housing needs of low to moderate income families. Construction Climbs Permits for more than S2.5 mil lion in construction were issued by the Brunswick County Building In spection Department in July. Inspectors issued 296 permits for $2,521,291 in total value, according to the monthly report. Of those per mits, 129 were for buildings, 122 for elcctrical, 10 for plumbing and 35 for mechanical inspections. Seven single-family permits were issued for $479,939 in value. Also, 83 mobile home permits were given along with six commercial building permits for SI ,846,600 in value. Other permits were as follows: one remodeling, S27.036; six addi tions, S48.394; four garages, $64,110; five decks and porches, S 14,220; three pools, SI 7,360; and seven signs, S23.632. For the year, 2,484 permits have been issued, 91 for single-family homes valued at $6 million and 33 commercial permits for S8.8 million in value. Sanitation grades for restaurants and food or drink stands arc based on a system of scoring where an "A" is given to scores of 9<) percent or better; a "B" to scores of at least 80 percent and less than 90 percent; a "C" to scores of at least 70 per cent and less than HO percent. The permit would be revoked for any es tablishment that receives a score of less than 70 percent.
