Brunswick County School Board Approves Staff Actions Brunswick County Board of Education members completed suit - ling arrangements for the new school year Saturday, filling vacan cies set in motion by several last minute resignations and other changes. Several of the reassignment* haven't been carried out, pending hiring freeze waivers from the stale. The individuals will retain their old positions until waivers arc received, said Ralph Ward, personnel director. Jerry Small, driver education teacher and athletic director, will temporarily act as an assistant prin cipal at West Brunswick High School in Shallotte, filling in for Carlton Sligh, who is out on leave. Sligh was recently reassigned from attendance counselor to assistant principal. Terry Chestnult, a physical edu cation teacher and coach at Wacca maw Elementary School at Ash, was named interim assistant princi pal, pending a freeze waiver from the stale. Assistant Principal Sybil Mitchell Simmons is on maternity leave. In the central office, Mary Wolf, pupil personnel services director, has resigned to become psycholo gist for the Currituck County Schools. Resignations were accepted also from Donna McLamb, music teach er, Shallotte Middle; Sandra Pir aino, elementary teacher, Shallotte Middle; Joann Absi, media coordi nator, North Brunswick; Anthony Price, special education teacher. South Brunswick High; Madeline Phelps, teacher assistant, Wacca maw; and Pamela Keescc, nurse, Bolivia Elementary. Hired were Ruth Clay, interim special education teacher. Union Primary; Wendy W. Rehearsals will be held each Tuesday at Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte at 7:30 p.m., ac cording to publicity chairman Tina Redman. The barbershop chorus is open to women of all ages in Brunswick County, and the South Carolina communities of Little River and North Myrtle Beach.
