Colobosh Elks Hold Festival
Calabash l-lks Lodge No. 267l> is
planning its annual His and Hers
Fall Festival. Saturday. Sept. 2S. at
the Elks Lodge in Traders Village,
Calabash.
The event, scheduled front 9 a m.
to 5 p.m. is open to the public.
Many different crafts will be
available, as well as plenty of food
dishes such as barbeque. hot dogs
and country kitchen items such as
jellies, candies, cakes and pies.
This is the lodge's major fund
raising event of the year, with pro
ceeds to help support local and
state-wide charities.

Literacy Is Focus
The Boiling Spring Lakes Ex
tension Homemakers Club will
sponsor a program titled "Reading -
A Child's Doorway to the World,"
in the fellowship hall of the First
Baptist Church of Boiling Spring
Lakes Friday. Sept. 27. at 7 p.m.
The program will include a panel
of speakers on topics related to
helping children and adults learn to
read and will set forth ways that in
terested individuals or groups can
help.
The public is invited. Audience
members will get to talk with
speakers during a refreshment |vri
od after the program.

The Waterway Art Association
will meet Thursday, Sept. 26. at
1:30 p.m. at Seaside United Meth

Schedules Foreign Films
Seven distinctive films remain to
be seen in the foreign Hick series of
fered this year for the first time by
the Brunswick County Arts Council.
All will be shown at Sea Three
Screens Theater on Long Beach
Road near Southport.

1962 Spanish film wiih English
subtitles, is a social satire by direc

Nov. 4: Blue Angel, a popular
1930 German film starring Marlene
Dietrich and Emil Jannings, features
Ms. Dietrich's Falling In Love
Again. It's directed by Josef von
Sternberg.
Dec. 2: Man Oncle , a 1958
French comedy satire with English
subtiUes is directed by the world-re
knowned Jacques Tali.
Jan. 6: Kiss of Death, a 1947
American film noir is directed by
Henry Hathaway and stars Karl
Maiden and Victor Mature.
Feb. 3: Stolen Kisses, a 1969 dra
ma of the French underworld has
English subtitles and is directed by
Francois Truffaut.
March 2: The 400 Blows, a 1959
French drama with English subtitles
tells of a 12-year-old boy's fugitive

Leland.
The double rini; ceremony was
officiated by the Rev. Allen R.
Gainey. Jackie Home gave the bride
in marriage.
Songs provided by vocalist Jacque
Stocks were Looking Through the
Eyes of Love , 'lime in a Bottle, and
Can I Count On You.
Best man was Johnny Gainey,
with John Horrell, Keith Slocks,
Leroy Skipper and Jonathan Horrell
serving as ushers for the groom.
Thelma Horrell was maid of hon
or. Other bridal attendants were
Valerian Mint/, Wanda Home, Ann
Skipper and Daphne Home.
The bride wore an informal while
gown with strapless satin slip-dress
underneath and a longsleeved lace
overdress. The fitted bodicc fell into
a basque waist, with full skirt, high
low hemline and a low V-back.
The bride's headpiece was a skull
cap wiili a large white silk rose in
die center, and a 32-inch veil at
tached with a large butterfly and
pearl accents.
Her cascading bouquet consisted
of peach and w hite silk lilies, morn
ing glories, spring flowers, and ba
bies breath, with two butterflies in
cluded.
The bride's attendants wore
peach silk dresses with low V-backs
and large rul lies. Their bouquets
were ol crystal glass with a lighted
candle, flowers, and peach and blue
ribbons. They wore white acces
sories, butterfly earrings and peach
colored hairpieces with ribbons.
A reception was held afterward at
Hood's Creek Community Building.
The bride is a graduate of Lcland
High School and The American
School, while the groom is a gradu
ate of New Hanover High School.
The couple w ill reside in Leland.
