".AS MtH Center Holds Open House Ifrunswick Adult Day Care Center Inc. opened the doors of its new site on Al Street in Shallotte to the public Sunday afternoon , giving lours of the facility recently renovated and furnished through contributions of labor and materials. The not-for-profit center will provide mobile senior adults with an activity program and supervision, offering respite for their regular caregivers al a rale well below the actual cost of the service. Design Contest Planned For 1992 Oyster Festival llio logo design for the 1992 NC Oyster Festival will be chosen once again bv the public at this year's festival. Oct. IS Professional and amateur artists of all ages .ire invited to participate in the logo design contest, spon sored by the South Brunswick Is lands Chamber of Commerce. Allan Dameron, this \ ear's festi val chairman, announced at a recent meeting that Don Evans of Coastal Insurance and Realty will chair the 1992 Oyster Festival Logo Contest. "Allowing the public to choose the logo at last year's festival worked very well," said Evans. It was decided again this year to put die decision back into the hands of the trusty public." Ray Cullis of Southport won last year's popular vote with a design that featured long clammers at work, silhouetted against a blazing sun. The 1992 winning design will be used for next year's festival, sched uled the third weekend in October, and will be displayed o:. T-shirts and sweatshirts, posters, brochures and other promotional materials. The artist creating the winning design will receive a $100 cash prize awarded by the chamber, and the design will become the property of the Oyster Festival Committee. Designs must be 8 inches by 10 inches in si/.e and must be in color. Bike-A-Thon Seeks Tommy Carpenter of Supply is calling on area residents to join the Si. Jude Children's Research Hos pital Wheels For Life Bike-A-Thon slated Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ai Simmons Ranch on Civietown Road. Volunteer workers and riders are needed for this event to raise funds for the research center in Memphis in its battle against childhood can cer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. Founded by Danny Thomas, the hospital operates pri marily from public support. "We're looking for riders and helpers who will contribute their lime and talent to help children live," said Carpenter. "We really need lots of riders, since they are the ones who can make this Bike-A Thon successful." Riders ask sponsors to make a donation based on each mile com pleied. Riders turning in money re ceive a certificate. Those who raise S30 also get a St. Jude T-shirt, while those who raise S75 also get a Riders, Sponsors sports bag in addition to the T-shirt and certificate. "The real prize. though, is the pride everyone can take in giving children a chance to live a normal life," said Carpenter. Annual Ole Time Festival Set For Leland Saturday Free entertainment, arts, traits and rides lor ehddren will highlight the 7th Annual Ole Time Festival in Leland Saturday.
