SPORTING SCEN E Plenty of 'Firsts' In Third Week Of Prep Grid Season HY JOIINNY CKAIC The thud week, of the local hi^h school football season was highlighted by a number of "firsts." Mullins had won IhhIi tunes including a 58-6 rout in ll>77. the last time the two squared oil in Shallotte. The triumph over the Auctioneers was also West Brunswick's first win following an open date since 1988. The Trojans were idle two weeks ago and head coach Marshall Sea> indicated his teams have had a tendency to he a little dow n follow ing a week off. The w in also left West Brunswick t '-0> as the only unbeaten team in ihe Waccamaw 2- A Conference. The Trojans have ouLscored their lust three op|x>nenis ol the current campaign 76-7. their best scoring margin since 1^87 m Seav's second year. That season the Trojans ouLscored its opening three foes 1 24- 52. Still. Seay sees plenty of improvement lor his offense following last Friday's game against Mullins. " Friday was one ol those nights where you better be pretty glad to get .i win. This is just what we need," Seay said m reference to the close game. "I think our kids will focus in a loi better from here on out. The> al most Listed defeat against Mullins. Our delensc rose to the occasion but our offense never did." "The most disappointing thing about it was that we spent about 80 jvr cent ol our practice time last week on oifense. I'm just pleased to get a w in and proud of our kids." added Seav. Wallace-Rose Hill got as firsi-ever win over a Bill He well -coached team in the Bulldogs' 26-7 romp over South Brunswick last Friday. Hewett. who compiled an impressive 67- 1 1 record at Whiteville bclbre coming to South Brunswick. had guided his Wolfpack teams over Wallace Rose Hill in a number memorable state 2- A playoff wins during his six year tenure.
