"Grief can be fell by the loss of a parent through divorce: losing a friend by moving to a new town." However, her focus in the work shop is on death and the sense of loss students can bottle up inside. She said that many students don't express their grief simply because not many other people are willing to talk about it. Ms. Judah urged counselors to feel free to talk about death and learn more about the feeling it caus es. "This is a subject that the less you know about it, the more uncom fortable you are with it," she said. "We have to know how to talk to them, what to say. These kids won't ask for help and we can't count on every family to be handling it. The family is grieving, too, so how can they rccogni/.c what's happening?" she continued. The next two sessions of the workshop, coming up in November, will be led by Jean Pelletier of the Brunswick County office of Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Ms. Judah said she is considering opening up future workshops to teachers and possibly parents, but that she would have to wait and see what kind of response she gets.
