He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and Vietnam War. and was a criminal investigator for the U.S. Army before retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wilm ington. Kubes had lived in Leland for four years. HOMER WEEKS BREWER JR. Homer Weeks Brewer Jr., 62, of Yaupon Beach died Oct. 24 at Doshei Memorial Hospital, South port. He was a former town com m issioner. Brewer was born March 4, 1929, in Warsaw, a son of the late Homer W. and Mablc Sutton Brewer. He was retired front the U.S. Navy Submarine Service and formerly worked in the pro shops at Oak Island Country Club and Bald Head Island Country Club. At the time ol his death, he was employed as a se curity guard at Sunny Point Military Ocean Terminal. He had served three terms as a Yaupon Beach town commissioner and was a member of Oak Island Moose Lodge anil Oak Island VFW Post. CHURCH ACTIVITIFS Lighthouse Mission Church Offers Alternative The Lighthouse Mission Church at Calabash is offering an evening of family entertainment tonight (Thursday) for community members as an alternative for those who do not want to celebrate Halloween. Family Night begins at 6:30 p.m. and will feature a tree dinner, candy and games, as well as a drama per formed by the church youth group, said Pastor Larry Ward.
