Residents and Property Owners:
The most difficult problem I have found in being a cominissionei at Holden
Beach is that issues are very personalized. Because we are a small island- and set
each other on a regular basis-friends attach themselves to issues and, because of
that, sometimes do not understand why 1 do not vote the way they see a
particular conclusion.
Well. 1 believe that to be a good commissions 1 must fac t- the issues with one
thing uppermost in niind-the good of the whole of the community. This means
listening to all sides and all the facts that I can obtain from as much expert advise
j as possible in making a fair and unbiased judgment based on that information I
I truly believe if 1 do this, then 1 am acting in the best interests of the town and ol
the residents and property owners.
Some of the issues 1 see are.
LIGHT1NG-I support a well planned set oi street lights, especially at liilerset lions |
, Lighting Is a municipal concern, not a private mallei As more and more leurees
| come into our area, the street lights will be an asset to the incoming 91 1 progiam.
ORDERLY PLAN OF GROWTH Our island. In order to pioteet its li agile
environment, must have an orderly plan ol growth that would allow the watchlul
eye for pollution ol its ocean, canals and waterways.
SAFETY-The safety factoi on the beach and roads has long been an issue that has
been side stepped over the years. It appeals that wt now ai e going to place a
concerted effort on each. Sidewalks have been my deep coiitcin and 1 have
worked for their funding. Fortunately it is now on the drawing board loi ihe
project to begin.
Our needs on the island sometimes differ because ol the location of oui homes.
The accessways to the beaches, the dredging of the canals, the protection of the
ocean dune, the concern foi wildlift that conies to oui area to breed and leed aie
all an integral part of what makes Holden Beach a unique plate to live and work.
How fortunate we are to have this and the opportunity to lmpiove and piotn t
1 feel that I would provide continuity lo a new board and would appreciate your
support and vote.
