Extension Club clccted new club of
ficers at their October meeting at the
Brunswick County Government
Center, Bolivia, said Alvino T.
DiCarlo, spokesperson.
Officers for 1992 will be Jack
Ogden. president; Bill Dunn, vice
president; Jo DiCarlo, treasurer; and
Alda Lewis, secretary.
Dunn announced that the county
is proposing a central collection site
for recyclable goods. Dunn said the
proposed location would he some
where between Boiling Spring
Lakes and Soulhport, hut that noth
ing hud been decided by county ofli
cials.
The club reported 210 hours of
volunteer time logged in October.
The next area meeting will be
Tuesday, Nov. 26m at 10 a.m. on the
topic of defensive driving. It will be
held at the Agricultural Extension
Ftxxl Lab at the county government
center.
Woodmen Youth Met
The Shallow: Woodmen of the
World Ranger Youth Lodge No.
1415 met last Saturday at Shallotte
Township Park, with rangers from
Soulhport and Shallotte in atten
dance.
Plans were made for a W.O.W.
float in the Shallotte Christmas Par
ade and for the W.O.W. annual
Christmas party to be held Dec. 16.
A guest. Earl Hughes, eastern
N.C. fraternal coordinator, gave an
update on recent improvements
made at the W.O.W. Youth Camp at
Fort Barnwell.
The group voted to give a "love
offering" to a local needy family and
plans to meet again in December.

Town Tree Lighting Program
To Feature Music And Santa
Five area organizations arc jointly sponsoring a town Christmas tree
lighting ccrcinony Thursday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. on the lawn of the main of
fice of United Carolina Bank in Shallotte.
A 15-fool tall tret* will be lighted for the holiday season, said
Coordinator Alex Meams of the South Brunswick Islands Rotary Club.
A half-hour musical program will feature the band and chorus of
West Brunswick High School and a sing-along.
Santa Claus will arrive aboard a Shallotte VFD lire engine, bringing
candy for children who attend the program.
Sponsors in addition to tlic Rotary Club are the Shallotte Lions Club.
Civitan Club. Pilot Club and Shallotte Woodmen of the World.
In the event of rain the program will be rescheduled to Thursday,
Dec. 12.
Waterway Regatta Will Ring
In Season At North Myrtle
Boats will once again went their
way up the Atlantic Inlracoasial
Waterway in a festive holiday dis
play Saturday, Nov. 30, when the
Jaycccs of North Myrtle Beach,
S.C., hold their seventh annual Intra
coastal Christmas Regatta.
The event will include a food
drive for needy families in that area.
The event begins at 4:30 p.m. at
Tilghman Point, and the public is in
vited to watch the night-time marine
parade along the Atlantic lntia
coastal Waterway as dozens of boats
pass by, said Amy Bruton, publicity
director for the Jaycccs. The parade
mute ends approximately 7 p.m. ai
Verccn's Marina in North Myrtle
Beach.
Ms. Bruton said that admission
will be accepted in their traditional
asking form of canned goods, un
wrapped toy or financial contribu
lion which the Jaycccs will he col
lecting to distribute to underprivi
leged families during the holiday
season.
Boat owners will he competing in
the regatta by dressing up their ves
sels with lights, music and other
decorations. The entry fee for hoaLs
is S25 each.
Awards will be presented in five
different categories: sailboat, power
boat, power boat (27 feet to 50 feet),
power boat (over 50 feet) and pon
toon/houseboat. Winners of each
category will be announced at the
awards ceremony held Dec. 1 at Pal
metto Shores Marina, North Myrtle
Beach.

Oak Island Slates Home Tours
Seven homes on Oak Island will
be open for viewing as part of the
fifth annual Oak Island Tour of
Homes Saturday, Dec. 8, from 1
p.m. to 5 p.m.
Tickets cost S5 per visitor and arc
available in advance at several busi
nesses in the Southport. Yaupon
Beach and Long Beach areas, as
well as at the Southport-Oak Island
Chamber of Commerce. Tickets
may also be purchased the day of
the lour at Long Beach Recreation
Center and at each of the homes on
the tour.
Participants may begin or end their
tour at the recreation center, where
entertainment and refreshments will
be provided for ticket holders.
The event is sponsored by the
Oak Island Bcautification Club,
which funds projects including sea
sonal plantings throughout Yaupon
Beach and Long Beach.
