Volunteers w ho helped put on the
1941 N.C. Festival By The Sea were
given certificates and treated to an
appreciation dinner last week by the
festival sponsors.
The Greater Holden Beach Mer
chants Association hosted the dinner
for 57 volunteers last Tuesday night
at the Beach Cafe, said spokesman
Jim Lowell.
President Johnny Craig had cer
tificates for 75 volunteers who
helped run the Halloween Carnival,
parade and other events.
An estimated 40, (XX) people at
tended the arts and crafts fair during
the festival last month. Next year's
festival is scheduled Oct. 30 through
Nov. I .

Brunswicktown Christmas
Teaches Colonial History
Brunswicktown State Historic
Site will share a bit of colonial his
tory as it opens its doors for a
Christmas Open House on Sunday,
Dec. 8, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The afternoon's activities will in
clude music, traditional food and
arts and crafts displays which will
depict life in Brunswick County 200
years ago.
Traditional treats cooked with
18th and 19th century recipes will
be offered, and the visitor's center
will be decorated with fruits and
greenery representative of the Amer
ican colonial period.
Seasonal instrumental and choral
performances begin at 2 p.m. and
continue until 5 p.m., featuring the
Sea Notes Choral Socicty and the
North Brunswick Chamber Ensem
ble.
Christmas carols will be lead by
the Record Aires, a trio that plays
the recorder, a medieval European
wind instrument.
Sponsored by the Friends of
Brunswicktown, site volunteers and
area businesses, the open house will
be followed by a vespers service in
the ruins of old St. Phillips Church
at 5 p.m.
The service will be conducted by
the Rev. Robert Bcaslcy along with
members of St. Phillips Episcopal
Church in Southport.
The Brunswicktown site, which
works to preserve and interpret the
history of the once prosperous colo
nial port village, is located off N.C.
1 33 adjacent to Orion Plantation.
The program is free of charge and
open to the public.

Christmas meeting Thursday. Dec.
5, in the Calabash Fire Station on

will begin at 6:30 p.m.. with a grab
bag gift exchange planned.

Lower Cape Fear Hospice is

Tree lighting ceremonies arc plan

The program, which will include
the singing of Christmas carols, will

pital in Supply Monday, Dcc 2, at 7
p.m. and at Doshcr Memorial Hos
pual in Soulhport Monday. Dcc. 9,
at 7 p.m.

symbolically sponsor a light on the
tree in honor or memory of some
one.
Also at each hospital will be a
Book of Honor, a records of the
names of the individuals honored by
the lighLs.
