Permission Needed Before Converting Farm Wetlands Farmers should get permission from ihe Soil Conservation Scr\ice office before convening wetlands or risk losing their U.S. Department ol Agriculture benefits. The wetland "trigger" has been changed under the 1990 Farm Bill, which means farmers must be more carclul to follow the new swamp buster provisions, said Harold D. Jones, district conservationist for the SC'S office in Bolivia. "Put simply, don't convert any wetlands for any purpose without first alerting SC'S," said Jones. The "trigger" is the action a larmer or lann owner lakes that will put him in violation ol the Farm Bill's provisions.
