Myrie's Sentence Includes School Talks On Dangers Of Drugs A prominent Southport resident louml guilty in Brunswick County District Court last week of misde meanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia must give talks to school children on the dangers ol drugs. Leslie Kolce Myrie Sr., 4S. ol .*>56 Jabbcrtown Road, has been ordered by District Court Judge David (i. Wall to serve 24 hours ol comniuni ty service within 90 days. That ser vice will includc visits id local schools to discuss with children the dangers of drugs, according to docu ments on file at the Brunswick County Clerk ol Court's ollice. Myrie w as charged by the Bruns wick County Sheriff's Department follow ing a vehicle search m June at a road narcotics check|xiint manned by the Sheriff's Department and the N.C. Highway Patrol. He pleaded not guilty in District Court last Tuesday, Dec. 17, but was found guilty tm both charges by Judge Wall. Myrie is past president of the South port-Brunswick County Branch ol the NAACP, was a governor's ap pointee to die Seafood Industrial Park Authority at Wanchcsc and served on die Brunswick County Resources Development Commission. He was sentenced to 29 days in the Brunswick County Jail, suspend ed for two years, fined SKX) and or dered to pay court costs. Judge Wall also ordered that Myrie not use, pos sess or consume any controlled sub stance and rcccivc an evaluation from the Brunswick County Mental Health Deparuiient lor controlled substance use. The small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia found during die scarch was ordered destroyed.
