RECREATION BRIEFS Gymnastics To Start Monday Gymnastics c lasses sponsored by the Bruaswick County Parks and Recreation Department will start next week in Leland and Southport. Classes will be held every Mon day at Lincoln Primary School and every Thursday at Southport Pri mary School. Registration will be held at the first class in each location. The sign up fee is S20 per month, and partici pants will be required to purchase a recreation accident plan, which costs S6 per year. Kim Bissinger will instruct the classes. The program, which runs from 3 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., is open to county youths ages five and older. For more informauon, call Emma T. McGraw at 253-4357 or 1-8(X) 222-4790. Canoe In Florida If canoeing in south Florida sounds like fun, Brunswick County's parks and rccrcation de partment has the Adventure Bound trip for you. Participants will canoe on a vari ety of waters and camp in state parks during the eight-day trip, which is slated April 4-12. Highlights of the trip will includc paddling to Cabbage Key Island and hiking in Everglades National Park. The trip is open to anyone 21 years or older. Bridge Offered Bridge classes will be held at the Long Beach Recreation Center for beginners and intermediates. Beginners classes will begin Monday, Jan. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon. Yoga Taught A Kundalini yoga class will be offered at the Long Beach Recre ation Center. The Lady Cougars beat West Columbus 69-52 lasi Friday in Cerro Gordo after beating the North Brunswick Lady Scorpions by 52 points lasi Wednesday in Lcland. Guard Allison Cumbee was a ma jor factor in both South Brunswick wins, scoring a total of 43 points in the two games. The South girls were to play at South Robeson Tuesday night and return to Boiling Spring Lakes to host Fairmont on Friday. West Columbus South Brunswick's Cumbee scored 28 points to lead the Lady Cougars to a 17-point win at West Columbus last Friday. Cumbee hit five <>( shots from three-point range and scored 20 points in the first hall to give South Brunswick a 37-21 lead at halflime. Jodie Brown added 13 points for the Lady Cougars, and Tasha Sellers chipped in 10. South opened die game strong, ex panding a 17-10 first quarter lead to a 16-point advantage at intermission. Cougar Teams Dunk Scorpions Coach Cliff Gibson and the North Brunswick boys' basketball team have probably seen enough Cougars for a while. North lost to a pair of Cougar teams last week ? one from South Brunswick and the other from East Bladen? to fall to 0-3 in the Wacca maw 2-A Conference. The Scorpions, who have dropped five straight games after opening the conference season at 4-0, lost 71-62 at East Bladen last Friday. The Lady Scorpions lost to East Bladen and South Brunswick last week to fall to 0-3 in the Waccamaw 2-A Conference. East Bladen defeated North Brunswick 62-42 last Frulay night in Elizabcthtown, said Assistant Coach Carlie Luck. South Brunswick routed the Lady Scorpions 81-29 last Wednesday night in Leland. (See related story this issue.) North Brunswick (0-3, 2-5) will visit West Brunswick Friday night. Camp Nips Britton To Stay Unbeaten Canip Methodist nipped New Bntton Baptist 58-57 last Friday to stay atop the standings in the Brunswick County Church Men's Basketball League at 5-0.
