The dedication of the Welcome Center is this Friday at I p.m. Speaking will be County Commissioner Chairman Kelly Hoklen. Executive Director Sabrina Hodges will give a welcome. There will be a pledge of alle giance ami the raising of the U. S. flae and the North Carolina llag. Guest speaker will be Secretary ot Transportation Thomas J. Harrelson. followed by a ribbon cutting by President Dean Walters, the Welcome Center Board o! Directors, legislative representatives, and members of the Department of Transportation. Our Welcome Center is something that we should all be proud of. It is an entity that this county has RICHARDS needed for a long time. Please stop by and show your support for our Welcome Center. Travel Show Volunteers Needed Volunteers arc needed lor several area travel shows. We have two in March, one in Myrtle Beach and one in Greensboro. We also have a show coming up in Raleigh in April. Travel shows arc more fun than a barrel of monkeys. If you're a peo ple person like me, you'll love working travel shows. You get to meet all kinds of interesting people. And you get to talk up the South Brunsw ick Islands. You get to tell people about your home and how great it is to live and work (and of course vacation) at the beach! Taylor, R.N., of Bricklanding liavc recently joined the staff of Comprehensive Home Health Care's office at Supply, said Christine Waddell, personnel clerk. Mrs. Fedeley, a 198*7 graduate of Brunswick Community College's li censed practical nursing (LPN) pro gram, will be working as an LPN as well as in quality assurance. Mrs. Taylor attended school at Morristown, NJ., and has 30 years of experience as a registered nurse. She and her husband Edward live in Bricklanding. Also at CHHC, Rita Russell, R.N., is now serving as admission nurse/home health care coordinator. "Skip" Davis of Shallotte has been appointed by Gov. James Martin to a spccial committee that will study the merits of establishing a collegc of chiropractic in North Car? .na to serve students from across the eastern United States. A chiropractic physician, Davis is a graduate of Lincoln College of Chiropractic, has served on the board of directors of the North Carolina Chiropractic Association and serves on the Brunswick County Board of Health. The study committee is expected to hold its organizational meeting this month and make a preliminary report by fall. A more detailed re port is expected in 1993. The award was one of many pre sented at the meeting wlfcrc the presidency of the chamber passed from Annette Odom to Terry Bar bee, co-owner of Century 21 Island Realty of Ocean Isle. Nominations for Citizen of the Year, a new award this year, were solicited from the membership, ac cording to Ms. Odom, who said the winner was picked by the members, and she praised Ms. Laughinghouse for her service to the chambcr. Ms. Laughinghouse is now a receptionist at the clumber. Cross ami Bliif Shield of North Carolina Permits Strong In New Year The new year started off in Bruns wick County with healthy construc tion activity, but was still lower than in fall 1991, according to the Brunswick County Building Inspec - tions Department monthly repoit for January. Building permits for construction valued at more than SI. 2 million were issued in January by the de partment. In January, two permits were is sued for commercial development with a combined value of SI 29,260, compared to a commercial construc tion value of SI. 2 million in Novem ber. Permits for 15 single-family homes were issued for S926.720 in value, as well as five permits for S63.525 in additions and nine garages with an estimated value of SI 5 1,680.
