Seaside Church Slates First Kite Festival And Workshop Kites and more kites, all shapes, all sizes. Thai's what Seaside United Meth odist Church wants to see at its First annual kite festival, to be held Sun day, April 5, starting at 2 p.m. on the strand at Sunset Beach. To double the fun, the church is offering a free kite making workshop Sunday, March 29, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the church on N.C. 179 near Ocean Isle Beach. Material and cre ative guides will be provided, said Joseph Causey, one of the organizers. At the kite festival itself, rccogni lion is planned in six categories: highest flying kite, largest flying kite, smallest flying kite, most artis tic/creative homemade kite, young est participant and oldest participant. Klig's Kites of Myrtle Beach, S.C., will stage an exhibit at the fes tival as well as judging the contest. Participation is open to everyone, and there's no charge to enter, said Causey. April 12 is the rain date. More information is available from Seaside UMC's office, 579 5753. Bowling Winners Listed Brunswick County Parks and Rcercaiion Department held bowl ing tournaments last month for handicapped children and adults at Brunswick Howling Center in Shallotte. Adult participants who competed Feb. 28 attend the Brunswick In teragency Program at Brunswick Community College. Calvary Baptist Southport Boxer Wins Tourney Wins Bout Calvary Baptist beat Shallottc First Baptist 54-51 to win the Bruns wick County Church Men's Basket ball League tournament champion ship March 2. Calvary finished the season with a perfect mark of 1 3-0, while Shallotte First Baptist finished second at 1 1 -2. Camp Methodist, which finished third in the regular season, defeated Zion Baptist 47-43 in overtime in the tournament consolation game. James Scott of Southport defeated Mundcr Abdcrazzoq of Kingston Saturday in a 147-pound bout at the Wilmington Boxing Center. Scott, a member of Joyner's Box ing Club of Southport, won a 3-0 de cision over his opponent. He was the only local competitor at the tournament, said Larry Joyner, who runs the boxing club. Teams from Southport, Wilming ton, Morehead City, Kingston, Camp Lcjeunc and South Carolina were represented at the event.
