Wreck Injures Two On Bypass ? Two people were injured Sunday morning in a wreck on the U.S. 17 Shallotte bypass. Alfred Jerome Grant. 26, of John's Island, S.C., and a passenger in his 1979 Buick, Alicia Pollard, 22, of Charleston, S.C., were both taken to The Brunswick Hospital in Supply with minor injuiics after the 10:30 a.m. accident, the State High way Patrol reported. According to State Trooper D.A. Ixwis' report. Grant was traveling north on U.S. 17 about 1.2 miles south of Shallotte when his car was struck by a 1989 Ford pickup truck driven by Collie Wayne Long, 20, of Supply. Long's truck was attempting to cross four-lancd U.S. 17 on Old Shallotte Road (S.R. 1316), Lewis stated. Long, who escaped injures, was chargcd with a yield violation, Lew is reported. Damage was estimated at $5,000 to the Long truck and $1,000 to the Grant pickup. Truck Overturns Two people were seriously in jured when a pickup truck ran off the road and overturned near Cala bash Saturday. Terry Trell Clifton, 21, of Shal lotte, was chargcd with exceeding a safe speed after the 1987 Ford truck he was driving ran off of Persimmon Road (S.R. 1167) about 1.2 miles west of Calabash, Lewis reported. Clifton's truck was traveling at an estimated 75 niph when it ran off the left shoulder, crossed the road, jumped a diteh and overturned, Lewis stated. The truck then struck a fence and came to rest right side up, he said. Both Clifton and a passenger, Tony Sapp, 26, of Calabash, were taken to The Brunswick Hospital with serious injuries following the 1:30 p.m. wreck. Damage was estimated at S4,(HK) to the truck and S8(*> to a fence owned by Occanus Marketing and Management Co. Driver Charged A New Jersey man was charged with driving left of center in an acci dent that sent three people to the hospital Saturday morning. Christoph Glen Dcdrick, 20, of West Caldwell, N.J., was charged after his 1988 Mercury, traveling south on U.S. 17 about 5.2 miles south of Bolivia, ran off the left shoulder, slid out of control, crossed the highway, struck a ditchhank and overturned. State Trooper T.W. Cauldcr reported. The car came to rest on its top in the ditch, the report indicated. Scott Lynn-Siaunion Wayman, 21, was charged following the 4:15 a.m. wreck, Caulder stated. The 1991 Toyota was traveling north on U.S. 17 when it ran off the left shoulder, jumped a ditch and landed in a small clearing, Caulder reported. Roth W:?ym.in and a passenger, larry Hestler, 28, of Camp Lcjeunc, received minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital by ambu lance. Damage was estimated at S2,(XK) to the truck. DVVI Charge Filed Officers charged a Conway, S.C., man with driving while impaired following an accident Sunday morn ing near Calabash. Levi Wtxxlard, 19, was charged following the 2 a.m. accident. Suae Trooper B.L. Wilkes reported. Woodard's 1989 Ford was travel ing east on S.R. 1356 (Marlowtown Road) when it crossed S.R. 1302 (Shinglctrcc Road) and struck a ditchbank about 2.1 inilcs west of Calabash, Wilkes stated. Woodard was also charged with a slop sign violation, slated Wilkes. The driver received minor injuries and was transported to The Bruns wick Hospital. Vehicle damage was estimated at S4,(XX). Kitchen Damaged In Monday Fire No injuries resulted from a fire Monday night at a Midway Park mobile home on N.C. 179 south of Shalloitc, and damage was restricted to one small area of the kitchen, said Shalloitc Point VFD Chief Mike Potts. Approximately 20 volunteers from the Shalloitc Point and Shal loitc departments responded to the 6:55 p.m. call to the Staccy Jones residence. "We put it out right when we got here," said Potts. He estimated damage to the stove and cabinet area above it as between SI, 500 and S3,000. The fire apparcnUy started in the wall behind the stovctop on which she had been frying clams, Ms. Jones said. She had put the pan of clams on, Uicn stepped out of the kitchen. "I watched TV for a few minutes and then wait to die bedroom and folded some clothes," she said.
