Miss Burton plans to major in

ism as her career objectives.
She was one of 45 students to re
ceive competitive scholarship
awards to UNCG based on superior
achievement and potential, qualities
of leadership, evidence of interest in
others and motivation toward useful
purposes in life.
The Reynolds Scholarship award
ed to Burton is worth S3.500 per
year and is renewable for three years
of undergraduate study beyond the
freshman year, based on academic
achievement.
The scholarship is funded by the
Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation of
Winston-Salem.
At North Brunswick, Miss Burton
serves as editor of the school news
paper, a peer counselor ana member
of the Students Against Drunk
Driving chapter. She attended the
N.C. School of Mathematics and
Sciencc during her junior year and
attended North Carolina Governor's
School in English.
She has been a Quiz Bowl mem
ber and is in the academically gifted
program.
This summer she plans to serve as
a volunteer for the Cape Fear
Literacy Council.
BCCA Elects Officers
Brunswick County Citizens Asso
ciation (BCC) leaders for the current
year took office this month.
All but one of the previous offi
cers were re -clected, said President
Thurman Cause of Grisscttown.

Food, Music , Fun On Tap
At Belville Celebration
Food, carnival games, kids rides, craft booths and free entertainment
arc on tap at the fourth-annual Belville Founders Day celebration begin
ning at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 28, on Main Street.
Lecsburg band of Wilmington will play country music at the street
dance from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. All entertainment, rides and games arc
free. Jack Jones will be master of ceremonies.
"This year will be 15 years that the town of Belville has been a
town," said Vickie Gooch, town clerk, "and wc would like for everyone
to help us celcbratc. Wc are looking forward to a day of fun and relax
ation."
Ryder Preston of Newport, an Elvis impersonator for 26 years, will
perforin his show, "Keeping the Legend Alive." He has recorded two
country records and will inducted into the Elvis Impersonators Hall of
Fame in Las Vegas on July 31.
Also, magician Dave Risley of Wilmington will perform. He is not
ed for making balloon animals to entertain children.
The Fabulous Four, a beach music group from Mount Olive, will
make its second appearance at the festival with a combination of rock
and roll music from the 50s and 60s.

Association met with a contingent of
area state legislators that included
Rep. David Redwine and Sen. R.C.
Soles March 21 at the District 89
Legislative Breakfast.
The breakfast was held on the
campus of The University of North
Carolina at Wilmington and was an
opportunity for state employees and
legislators to discuss mutual con
cerns.
State employees from Brunswick
County who attended were primarily
from the N.C. Department of Trans
portation, said District 89 Publicity
Chairman Douglas Hall. In addition
to Ms. Hall they included Ernie
Evans. EMPAC chair; H. Lee Cur
nc; Bob Gore; Linda Millikcn;
