Camp United Methodist Church
of Shallotte and two ol its members
were recognized during the Wilm
ington District Lay Rally held
March 22 at the University of North
Carolina at Wilmington.
Camp UMC was honored as a
Rainbow Covenant Church for giv
ing to live different United Metho
dist mission programs at the local
level and beyond, the church news
letter indicated. Willi 28 members
present, it was also honored with die
attendance award at the rally for
churchcs of 250 to 5(X) members.
Pamela Deirie. a senior at Wesi
Brunswick High School, was one of
nine students from across die district
honored as an outstanding high
school senior.
Doloris Evans of Occan Isle

nominees from local churches for
District Lay Person of the Year.

Little River United Methodist
Church in Little River, S.C., will
celebrate Palm Sunday. April 12,
with lessons and hymns during
morning worship, enhanced by a va
riety of spccial music.

vance of Holy Week with the tradi
tional "Lay Witness," the laity of the
church leading in worship April 13

Regular Schedule Resumes
Calvary Baptist Church will re
sume its regular schedule of services
and activities beginning Sunday,
April 5.
Some activities such as Sunday
school were suspended during reno
vation and expansion of the church
facilities on N.C. 179 (Village
Road).
The Rev. John Landers, pastor,
said Sunday school will begin at 10
a.m., morning worship at 1 1 a.m.
and evening worship at 7 p.m., with
the public invited.
A nursery is provided for all ser
vices.
Go Fly A Kite!
Big kites, small kites, stunt
kites, homemade kites.
Any and all of these will take
to the air Sunday afternoon when
Seaside United Methodist
Church holds its first kite festi
val.
Flyers are to meet on the
strand at Sunset Beach at 2 p.m.
for an exhibition by Klig's Kites
of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and a
kite-Hying contest judged by
someone from the kite shop.
Participation is open to every
one, not just those who attend
the church, said Joseph Causey,
one of the volunteers helping
stage the event.
In conjunction with the festi
val, the church offered a kite
making workshop last Sunday
afternoon.
Awards will be presented
Sunday in all ly|>es of categories,
such as youngest and oldest par
ticipants, most artistic/creative
homemade kite and highest Hy
ing kite.
There's no charge to watch or
to participate.
If it rains, the festival will be
rescheduled to April 12.

Mrs. Benson was born Aug. 3,

She was a member of Pincy Grove

Briggs was bom in Wilmington on
June 29, 1961, the son of Kenneth L.
and Gloria McDowell Briggs of

Boiling Spring Lakes Baptist Church,
fie was employed with Federal Paper
Board Co. of Riegclwood.
He was preceded in death by a
brother, Kenny L. Briggs Jr.
