Three Face Indictments In BY TERRY POPE Three people arrested in an undercover marijuana operation in February were indicted by a Brunswick Counts grand jury Monday. More than 25 pounds of Columbian-grown marijua na was seized in the alleged drug deal uncovered by SBI agents and Brunswick County Sheriff Depart ment's narcotics detectives. Indicted Monday were Joseph Carson Brooks III, 33, of Route 5, Shallottc (Seaside); Ellis C. Bordeaux, 58. of Route 1, Dclco; and Marion Jensen Reis. 34, ol Route 1. Reis was indicted on a charge of possession with in tent to sell a pound of marijuana from that alleged Feb. 3 incident. An investigation led to the Bordeaux residence in Columbus County where an additional 20 pounds of marijuana was confiscated, Crocker stated. Charges were also filed against Bordeaux by Columbus County authorities. Bordeaux was convicted in 1989 in Brunswick County Superior Court on a trafficking cocaine charge. In Brunswick County Monday, he was indicted on charges of maintaining a vehicle, a 1981 Datsun, for keeping marijuana and possession with intent to manu facture, sell and deliver marijuana, stemming from an alleged Feb. 4 incident. He was also indicted on chargcs of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana; sale of marijuana; and maintaining a vchicle for keeping drugs, stemming from a Feb. 3 incident. The ease led officers to the Brooks residence at Seaside south of Shallotte, where detectives say they seized nearly a pound of marijuana. Brooks was indicted Monday on a charge of posses sion with intent to deliver 22 pounds of marijuana. The indictments accuse him of delivering the drags to Bordeaux on Feb. 2. Brooks was also indicted on charges of maintaining a B>84 Toyota truck for keeping anil selling drugs on two occasions, Feb. 2 and Feb. 5. The marijuana was of a high quality, said Crocker, and most likely grown and imported from Columbia. Information from a confidential source helped detec tives break the case, said Crocker. Others indicted Monday include: ?Adolph Garfield Holmes, 50, of McMilly Road, Shallotte, on two charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver .8 grams of cocaine; sale and delivery of cocaine, on Dec. 17 and Dec. 28; and maintaining a home on Mint/ Road (S.R. 1360) Shallotte. for keeping and selling cocaine. ?Anthony Verccn, of Keel Circle, Poplar, S.C., on charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver .2 grams of cocaine and sale and delivery of cocaine on Jan. 9. ?Edward William Bell, 21, of Mulberry Street, Shallotte, on a chargc of possession of cocaine on March 5. - r> - PHOIO CONTRlBUTtD A Little Sticky Things got a little sticky at Lincoln Primary School in Iceland as Jane Henry and Myra Robbins' kindergarten classes learned first hand about the four basic food groups. De partment of Public Instruction will return to Southport next week to re view the year-by-year steps involved in implementing what he terms the "comprehensive school improve ment management system". He will speak Tuesday, April 7, at 7 p.m. in the Employee Relations Building behind the CP&L Visitors Center on N.C. 87. The talk and informational meet ing is sponsored by Parents In Action, a community group advocat ing a change in management ap proach for local schools, in coopera tion with the Brunswick County Schools, said spokesman Leslie Collier. Occhipinti is to meet April 8 with the faculty and staff of South Brunswick High School. That school is beginning plans to imple ment the system. House Of Representatives Seats Shirley Thomas Greene, a se mi-retired farmer from the Bar nesville area, filed for the 14th District of the N.C. House of Representatives in the May 5 Democratic Primary. That district encompasses parts of Columbus, Brunswick, New Haiiuvci anu Robeson counties. "(I) offer my candidacy be cause of my belief at the pre sent time that some new and in novative thoughts and ideas should be integrated into the state legislature and that the people deserve no less than ef Paid for by the candidate fective representation...," said the 53-year-old Greene. lie said lie feels the represen tatives should be aware of "the wonderful area we live in by helping enact laws to present and enhance this area by sup porting law enforcement offi cers and continue to make us proud of our agricultural and suburban area." The one-time bank errand boy is active in business and banking, serving as a bank's chairman of the board of direc tors and has worked five years in a bank as well as various po sitions. He is now involved in the automotive business. Greene is also involved on the local, state and national lev els in agriculture and says he has helped shape, reform and implement farm legislation. He says he is mindful of the dis trict's diverse economic picture. He said he feels that with the mass demands and tremendous size of the state budget that the representative should know and understand the scope as well as adhere to strict fiscal responsi bilities and the people should receive a full dollar's value for the dollars spent. The person elected, he said, should "stand up, speak out, comprehend and direct or redirect the state dol lars for the fullest benefit to his constituents and the state." Greene has studied business law and economics at the American Institute of Banking and received a pre-standard and standard degree. He later studied law at LaSalle Law School and re ceived an LLB degree in 1963. He also holds a Juris Doctor Degree. He then was employed by an international company, traveled abroad having addi tional schooling in Europe. Greene has also worked on child abuse and neglect issues as well as served on national agricultural boards and exten sive consulting. He is married to the former Vivian Nye Floyd of Orrum, who is a graduate of Pembroke State University and a doctoral candidate in education. He is a volunteer firefighter with the Sterlings Volunteer Fire De partment, county Democratic Parly worker and a Master Ma son and holds an honorary de gree from a Bible college. He is a accused of breaking into a Winnabow home where four guns, a six-pack of beer and chainsaw, all valued at $650, were taken Feb. 15. Indictments also accuse him of breaking into a Route 1, Winnabow, home on Jan. 23 where a video recorder, television, jewelry, radio, Nintendo game and coins, all valued at $980, were taken. ?Curtis Lee Epps, 28, of Route 3, Supply, on seven counts of forgery and uttering lorged papers and pos session of .1 grain of cocaine with intent to sell and de liver Dec. 28 He is accused of forging signatures on seven checks cashed between Dec. 28 and Jan. 1 for amounts ranging from S45 to S60. ?Carolyn Marian Johnston, 33, of Long Beach, on a charge of possession of more than 28 grams but less than 200 grams of cocaine Jan. 17 a"d maintaining a home for krensn? rind 1 1 ? n ^ drtmc ?Gene Webb. 30. of Sloan Drive, Winnabow, on a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is ac cused of robbing a Cedar Hill Road nightclub in the Phoenix community Feb. 13. The indictment accuses him of pointing a revolver at the club manager and taking SI 50. ?James Dennis Allen, 39, of 79th Street, Yaupon Beach, on a chargc of assault with a deadly weapon in flicting serious injury. He is accused of using a ra/or bladcd box cutter to cut the face of someone on Jan. 1 8. ?James Michael McKinley, 24, and James Freeman Jobe, 35, of Fort Bragg, on charges of common law robbery. They are accused of assaulting a clcrk and tak ing SI 37 from the Winds Resort Hotel at Ocean Isle Beach Feb. 25. Quick action helped Ocean Isle Beach Police arrest the suspects just after the alleged incident, prompting Chief Curt Pritchard to issue an official commendation for Officer Dan Hunter.
