HKWETT Three students from the Cedar Grove communi ty who attend Shallotte Middle School appear to be following the cxccllent exam ple of some of ilic communUv's finest and most successful native sons and daugh hewktt lcrs They are Richard "Rich" Bernard, son of U/.ena and Samuel Bernard II; and Rhonda and Nicole Galloway, daughters of Carrie Mae and Thomas Galloway II. Rich likes school, hunung, fishing and participating in missionary ser vices on the local, district and state level. Rhonda and Nicole, youths of the month at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, arc dedicated to mission participation on all levels. Their hobbies include homcmaking, cooking, sewing, sports and going to state mission ministries in Raleigh, Charlotte and Winston-Salem. They're already txx>kcd to go to the Leaders Workshop of the Woman's Baptist Suite Convention in Raleigh. In Their Steps These three appear to be following in the steps of some of the most suc cessful products of our community. I'm talking about young people who were not afraid to knock their heads against a college wall until they could bring home the sheep skin: attorney Willie Hewett, an at torney in a congressman's office; Earnest Hewett, a successful condo minium builder in St. Thomas; Wanda Bryant, a past assistant 1 3th District attorney; and their predeces sors, Kenneth Johnson, a succcssful lawyer in Greensboro; Dr. David Leon Gore, a general practitioner in Hampton, Va.; and Joseph Gore, Ph.D., dean of Mary Holmes Junior College in Mississippi. In a recent conversation some of these succcssful young adults were wondering if their lights were shin ing bright enough to give a glimpse to the youth today in their pursuit of balancing the civic, social and Christian components of their lives, each in their rightful place so thai joy and triumph arc the consequence of their mission in life. Its seems wc do have young peo ple today willing to follow the ex ample of hard work and dedication set earlier in our community.
