WEST BOYS FINISH SFCOKin Lady Trojans Win Home Meet I$Y l)OU(; RUTTKR The West Brunswick girls' track team won the final event to edge West Columbus in a Waccamaw 2 A Conference quad-meet last Thursday in Shallotte. The Lady Trojans captured the 1 MO- meter relay to w in the school's first home track meet in four years. "I'm pleased as punch," Coach Kathy Bryant said. "I'm real proud of the girls for winning that last event. We were behind all day." West Brunswick's girls finished with 81 points to get past a good West Columbus team that tallied 79 points. Fairmont finished third with 54 points, followed by East Bladen with 28. The Lady Trojans picked up wins in the 1600-meter and 800-meter relays. They also claimed wins by Medina Moore in the 100-meter hurdles and Laura Hill in the 300 meter hurdles. Melissa Johnson won the 400 meter run, and Irene Johnson won the 200-meter run and triple jump. West Columbus dominated the boys' meet, winning 12 of the 18 events and racking up 135 points. West Brunswick was second with 65, followed by East Bladen with 40.5 and Fairmont with 22.5. The Trojans got wins from Timmy Daniels in the high jump and Jay Mitchell in the pole vault and also won the 400-meter and 800-mctcr relays. In other rcccnt action. West Brunswick's track teams traveled to Whitcville last Tuesday for the confercncc opener. Whitcville's boys won easily with 187 points, followed by West Brunswick with 34 points. East Bladen was third with 21 and Fairmont had 16. Whitcville also won the girls' meet with 107 points. West Brunswick and Fairmont tied for second with 47 points each, and East Bladen placed fourth with 38.
