ENTERTAiNMENT BRiEFS Brunswick Concert Band Will Give May 3 Concert The Brunswick Concert Band, un der the direction of Paul Pittcngcr, will present its four annual spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the Centennial Center, Eighth and Lord Streets in Southport. Featured selections will be num bers from Porgy and Bess and West Side Story. Also on the program arc marches, jazz tunes and "big band" arrangements. VV?f Side Story , a success on Broadway and in films, was com posed by Leonard Bernstein. Its set ting is the Puerto Rican section of New York City, focusing on street gangs and a lender love story. "Tonight" and "Maria," popular songs from this musical, will be on the program. George Gershwin's Porgy and Hess is based on a DuBosc Local Styling Salons, Clients Work Together For Victims This month, when local men and women get their hair styled, they can also help support Hope Harbor Home, Brunswick County's domes tic violence shelter. Twenty-one beauty salons and two barber shops are uniting to ob serve Victim Awareness Month through a campaign to inform wo men of the services of this agency and raise funds to support it. During April, the salons arc rais ing funds through individual fund raising projects involving hairstyling services, and information has been distributed in the hope of reaching those who may need Hope Harbor Home services. Participants in any of the individ ual fundraising projects will be eli gible to win the grand prize of weekend accommodations for two at 4-H Fashion Winners Named Tiffany Castccn, Chris Conner and Heather Hilton took home blue ribbons, trophies and camp scholar ships as winners in the annual Brunswick County 4-H Fashion Revue held April 16. The public assembly hall at the Brunswick County Government Center in Bolivia was the scene of a colorful revue of spring fashions created by 4-H members and narrat ed by Fettina Bryant, a member of the Youngstcrs-In-Acuon 4-H Club. Tiffany and Chris were top win ners in the senior teen division, while Heather competed in the early teen division. All will compete in the slate clothing camp in Reidsville May 1 and 2. Other awards included participa tion ribbons to Robert Hilton, Amy Townsend and Casey Townsend in the Partners in Learning (ages 6-8) competition. Blue ribbons in this category went to Cclia Sanders, who was also awarded a trophy and 4-H scholarship, Misti Lynn Gore, Heidi Layman, Tina Long, JoAnna Hatch, Daren Sellers and Dana Jenkins. VFD Sells Dinners Bolivia Volunteer Fire Depart ment will sell dinners Saturday, April 25, from 1 1 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the fire station in Bolivia. Plates will feature a choice of chicken or ham and will cost S3.50 each. Proceeds will benefit the depart ment, said spokesman Ann Bowling. Rock And Roll Coming Classic rock and roll comes to Wilmington's Thalian Hall May 9 with a concert by The Coasters, be ginning at 8 p.m. on the main stage. The Coasters, who were the first vocal group to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, will perform some of their greatest hits, including "Charlie Brown," "Yakety Yak," "Searching" and "Poison Ivy."
