Calabash Sets
Award Dinner
A Governor's Recognition and
Award dinner will be held Saturday
Aug. 15, 7 p.m., at Riverside Rest
aurant on the Calabash River, said
barren "Bud" Knapp, chairman of
the Calabash Town Festival Com
mittee.
The newly-formed committee has
planned an August 14-16 festival
sponsored by local merchants to
boost tourism in the waterfront com
munity. The award dinner is part of
those plans, which stems from the
town's selection by Gov. Jim Martin
to participate in the N.C. Coastal
Initiative Program.
Two local waterfronts, Calabash
and Southport, were chosen by
Martin to take part in the program
that encourages protection of water
quality and fisheries habitats along
the coast.
A festival committee has been
chosen to plan the August event.
Members also include Paul Walker
vice chairman, and Linda Walters'
treasurer.
