Brunswick County Construction Value Ud
While Brunswick County build
ing permits issued and total value of
construction in March were up only
slightly from March 1991, the jump
over February 1992 was dramatic.
Figures from the county building
inspection department showed the
399 total permits issued in March of
last year fell to 321 in February,
1992, then rose in March to 425.
Total construction values, reported
at SI. 2 million in March of last year
increased only to SI. 6 million in
February, but were up to S2 million
The report also indicates big in
creases from February to March in
mobile homes, garages, and decks
or porches. In February, the depart
mcnt issued 55 permits for mobile
homes, 8,000 garage permits and
13,496 decks/porches permits. In
March these figures rose to 91 mo
bile homes, 97,620 garages and
3 1 ,520 decks/porches.
Two categories of permits were
down, however, in March 1992 from
the previous month. Twelve addi
tions were authorized in March, at a
value of SI 66,499, while February
additions were 22, at almost the
same total value, S166.292. A year
ago, the number was 15 and the cost
was SI 65 ,006.
Also sign construction fell from
six in February to one in March, the
same number permitted in March
1991. The values varied consider
ably, the sign perm i tied in March of
1991 costing S32,(MX) and the six in
February valued at S8.475. Last
month's single sign was valued at
Total building permits for 1992 to
date were 984, whereas the March
year-to-date total in 1991 was 908.
Total construction value to date this
year was S4.9 million, compared
with $4.3 million for the year to date
in March, 1991.
The county has issued no permits
this year through March for multi
family buildings, industrial build
ings, pool or rcmodclings. Six com
mercial building permits were issued
in March, at a total value of
S281.956, compared with three in
March 1991, at a value of SI 95 ,658.

I invite you to inspect the books for accuracy.
All the records of this office, including the
financial report , are, quite literally, a matter of
public record. Examination of these records will
confirm a return of over $400,000 to the
General Fund of this county (even after
expenditures from the budget for upgrading
equipment to provide a faster, more efficient
service). We remain under budget even with the
decline in real estate activity due to the current
recession. These figures are reported to the
local media on a monthly basis and are
available for your scrutiny.
