TiME TO PLAY BALL DixieYouth Baseball League Opens Season The cry of "Play Ball" rang loud and clear Saturday as the Supply-Shalloilc Dixie Youth Baseball League opened its 1992 season with a llurry. Supply Park hosted six games, including four between major league teams from Shallotte and Southport. Southpon got the best of the local teams, winning at least three ol the four games. 'I hc L.unghoms beat the Rebels 11-3, the Indians topped the Yankees 11-1 and the Blue Jays shut out the Cardinals 1 1-0. The fourth major league game between the Southport Barons and Supply Bucs was sus pended in the bottom of the fifth inning with the score tied at 5-5. League President David Batten said the game was stopped because the league needed time to interpret a rule. I"he game wdl be com pleted this Saturday, May 2, at Southport. The local minor leaguers got the action start ed Saturday with a pair of early games. The A's lopped the Blue Jays in game one by a 17-11 score, but lost the second game to the Cubs. 1 1 - 6. Batten said Supply Park features a new scoreboard this year and press boxes for both of the youth league fields. The first half of the season continues through May 2X. while the second half is scheduled to end June 22 with playofls starting June 25.
