Still Taking Contributions Brunswick County remains be hind in its goal to raise S9.000 local ly to help benefit the American Heart Association. But it's not too late to turn in do nations. "Volunteers have done a big job in getting out some 1,100 letters since March 1," said Bill Potts of Shallotte, resident chairman of the Brunswick County Division of the AHA, "but less than half of our goal has been raised." Allen Bellamy of the Holdcn Beach area won two airlines tickets to the Florida Keys last week stem ming from the campaign drive. The names of volunteers who have raised S100 or more were placed in a hat, and Bellamy's name was drawn. Potts said Bellamy raised S355 with the "Dear Neighbor" letter writing campaign that began in March. Seventy-five volunteers mailed more than 1,100 letters to their friends in Bolivia, Boiling Spring Lakes, Southport, Long Beach, Shallotte, Ash, Holdcn Beach, Shallotte Point, Ocean Isle, Sunset Beach and Calabash asking for donations. Donations are used to fund re search and educational programs by the AHA. Both research and educa tion are the hope for further reduc tion of cardiovascular disease and stroke, still the number one killer in the United States. In Brunswick County, 47 percent of deaths arc caused by the disease. "If you have a blue letter lying on your desk or dining table, please send a check in the return envelope to your neighbor," said Potts. "The further reduction of heart disease de pends on your donations." Since 1924, the American Heart Assocation, a non-profit organiza tion, has sponsored research for by pass heart surgery, lung machines, pacc makers, drugs and cardiopul monary resuscitation training. Last year, Brunswick County won a plaque for raising the most money of all North Carolina counties dur ing its "Dear Neighbor" campaign. Persons who didn't receive a let ter but wish to donate may send a check made out to The American Heart Assocation, Bill Potts, Route 6, Box 853, Shallotlc, N.C., 28459, or call 754-5079. fA [ice >cHl Pretty RESORT INTERIORS Wicker Imports And The Finest Quality Furniture And Accessories Will Fill Your Home or Cottage With Style.
