Carter Smacks A Hole
In One At Brierwood
Elizabeth Carter made a hole in
one the third hole last Tuesday to
highlight the weekly Brierwood
ladies Golf Association tourna
ment.
Rosa Stadick fired a gross /X and
Ethel Brown shot net 61 to lead the
first ilight Kunners-up in the low
net division were Ann Causer with
62 and Lois Beato with 64. Stadick
had low putts with 27.
Top finishers in the second flight
were Marion Johnson w ith gross 95
and Jane Fleig w ith net 66. Bobbyc
Cordisco shot net 67 and Catherine
Clcmmons shot 68. Elsie Rickbeil
had low putts with 30.
Besides her ace. Carter also had
low gross in the third flight with a
99. Low net winners were Joan
Cowie with 68, Pat Strauss with 72
and Lou Akers with 73. Cowie had
low putts with 29.
In the fourth flight, top scorers in
cluded Evelyn Wuthrich with gross
104, Barbara Baxter with net 65, Jen
Ward with net 67 and Louise
Blizzard w ith net 70. Wuthrich had
low putts with 30.
During the round, Mary Ahearn
chipped in for a birdie at the third
hole. Other chip-ins were carded by
Beato at the sixth. Marge Roach and
Wuthrich at the 10th, Ward at the
15th and Sammie Nunn at the 18th.
Causer made birdie putts at the
sixth, ninth and 13th holes. Also
making birdies were Stadick at the
first and sixdi, Ethel Brown at the
eighth, Mary Schaack at the 14th
and Marie Brown at the 17th.
Sea Trail Ladies
Louisa Cilento shot net 33 to lead
the first flight in the Sea Trail
Ladies Golf Association tournament
last Wednesday at the Byrd course.
Golfers counted scores on the
front nine only and used half of their
handicaps. Runners-up in the top
(light were Jean Krisher with 33.5,
Carol Pauidge with 34.5 and Joan
Llewellyn w ith 37.
Second flight winners included
Dinah Gore with 30.5, Lois Pike
with 33 and Shirley Helmkc with
33.5. Marge Stokes and Dorothy
Cambria lied for fourth with 35.2.
In the third flight. Pal Burkart led
the way with a nel 31. She was fol
lowed by Marie Blanda with 37 and

Second place went to the foursome
of Ken Earl, Bcmic Distlcr, Ted
Paliwoda and Chuck Radcliflc with
a 135.
On a match of cards. Bill
Tcschler, Joe Gainer, Harry Recs
and Mike Abbcne look third place
with a score of 136. They beat out
the team of Dick Siebrechi. Jim
Gray, Rod Manifold and Joe Baran.
Calabash Veterans
Larry Bollinger had seven points
and took first place in the Calabash
Veterans Golf Association Stable
ford tournament last Friday at Brier
wood.
Other lop finishers included Bill
McDavit with seven points. Bill
Higgins with six, Jose Lucero with
five, Harold Daigncau and Paul
Turan with four. Art McGinn with
three, Walt Benes with two and Ed
Wood with one.
The newly-formed group, which
is still accepting members, will play
this Friday at Ocean Isle Beach Golf
Course starting at 8:20 a.m.

Hclene Baker parred the ninth
hole and won the Brierwood Nin
citcs tournament last Friday with a
score of 1 3.56.
Golfers counted scores on even
numbered holes only, Runners-up
were Alene Sterner and Harriet
Schtiler, who paired the second
hole.
Wyarian Taylor parred the third
and ninth holes anil had low putts
for the day with 18. Li/. Bruce,
Margaret Pingo and Schuler tied
with 1(> putts each.
Sea Trail Men
Bill Pike fired a net 61 to win the
Sea Trail Men's Golf Association
tournament last Tuesday on the
Jones course.
Runners-up included Bill Burkart
with a 65. On a match of cards,

and Gene Bii/ was fourth with 66.
Howard Van Duscn was fifth with a
net 68.
Al Cambria was closest to the pin
at the fifth hole and Dave Llewellyn

138 to take first-place honors.
Three shots back in second place
was the foursome of Hank Culp,
Bob Sterner, Jerry Smith and Dick
Owens.
Knights Slate
Golf Tourney
The Brunswick County Knights
of Columbus will sponsor a golf
tournament Tuesday. June 2, at
Sandpiper Bay Golf and Country
Club near Calabash.
The captain's choice event will
begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun
start. Teams can register until the
day of the tournament.
The S35 entry fee covers green
fees, cart, lunch and prizes donated
by area mcrchanLs. Proceeds from
the tournament will go to local char
ities.

Gauntlet Hosts Charity Events
The Brunswick County Fraternal Order of Policc sponsored a charity
golf tournament for Easter Seals on May 2 at The Gauntlet at Sl James
Plantation near Southport.
Marie Boswcll, Andy Snead, Mike Dow less and Tim Jarman took first
place. The foursome of David Eisel, Frank Baker, John Small and Char
lie Leighton was second, followed by Kevin Gainey, Ricky Parker, Jelf
Shiller and Allan Smith.
Jarman was the umrnament's long drive winner, ami Malt Palmer won
the closest-to-the-pin contest.
Danny Kjrby, golf pro at The GaunUct, shot a 69 for a new course
record. He was playing with Allen Jefferson, Jeff Hazal and Steve Kinscr.
On June 12, The Gauntlet will host the Century 21 Gordon Really
Regional Golf Classic for Easter Seals, one of 25 being played this year
in North and South Carolina.
The format for the event is an 18-holc better ball of twosome. There
will be a men's division and open division, for one man and one woman
or two women.
A 1:30 p.m. shotgun start is planned. The S60 per person entry fee
covers green fees, cart, food and beverages.

South Golf Fourth After First Round
South Brunswick's golf team was
lied for fourth after the first round of
the state 1-A/2-A high school golf
championship at Finlcy Golf Course
in Chapel Hill.
The Cougars shot 313 in the
opening round Monday, getting a 77
from Jeff Howard. 78s from Andy
Bmadwcl! and Brandon Vannoy and
an 80 from Pat Jones.
South Brunswick opened Tues
day's second and final round trailing
