The local school received $31539 from the April 28 fund-raiser, in addition to $479 following an earlier "Booster Night." April Had Plenty Of Showers If the old saying about April showers bringing May flowers is true, southeastern North Carolina residents should see lots of blooms this month. The region received 3.12 inches of rain in April, which was .14 inch es above average, according to the National Weather Service in Wil mington. A heavy downpour on April 22 tied the old record for that date of 1.47 inches set back in 1907. The greatest rainfall in a 24-hour period was 1.86 inches on April 21 and 22, according to the weather service report Total precipitation for the year is 17.97 inches, which is 3.87 inches above normal. The weather scrvicc reports that the average monthly temperature was 61.5 degrees, which was 1.6 de grees below normal.
