Larceny Defendants Ordered To Pay Restitution To Victims Two defendants were ordered to pay restitution in Brunswick County District Court last week to victims who had items stolen from them. Judges D. Jack Hooks Jr. and Napoleon B. "Poli" Barefoot Jr. heard eight cases involving breaking and entering with larceny, larceny of firearms and shoplifting charges. One defendant was sentenced to 14 days in jail and ordered to pay the victim $1,200 for items stolen. Another received a suspended sen tence and was ordered to pay $480 in restitution for a stolen firearm. The shooting occurred around 12:40 p.m. in the parking lot of the H.B. Lee Buy-Rite on Village Road. The suspects allegedly assaulted someone leaving the store and fired shots that struck the building, Brunswick County Sheriff s Deputy Brian Sanders reported. Anthony Canty, 21, of Navassa was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was being held in the Brunswick County Jail under S3.000 bond Monday. Also charged were Derrick An drews, 18, and Leon Bowman, 23, both of Navassa. Andrews was be ing held under S2.000 bond on charges of simple assault and acces sory after the fact to a felony. Bowman was charged with accesso ry after the fact to a felony and had his bond set at S 1 ,000. According to Sanders' report, the victim was pushed down in the parking lot and beaten about the face but managed to stand and hit one suspect. Another suspect allegedly pulled a handgun from a Chevrolet truck and fired two shots at the victim, missing him but hitting the building, Sanders reported. The victim then ran behind the building where another shot was fired, Sanders stated. The suspects fled the scene in the truck. Sheriff's Detective Nancy Simp son reported no one was injured in the incident, which apparently stem med from an argument the men had earlier in the week.
