Davis of Supply was Brunswick County's sole recipient of a 1992 YWCA Cape Fear Women of Achievement Award, present ed May 7 during an awards ban quet in Wilmington. Ms. Davis was honored for her achieve ments in busi ness. Awards were also given for work in the arts, community service, education, government, human ser vices, industry, professions, sports and recreation, teen leadership and entrepreneurial achievement. Twe lve of 45 nominees for the regional awards were from Brunswick County. As vice president and administra tor, Ms. Davis led Comprehensive Home Health Carc, a company with seven offices in southeastern North Carolina, to become the first in the state of its kind to be accredited by the Joint Commission on Accre ditation for Health Care Organiz ations. She was responsible for selecting middle management staff for all branch locations. DAVIS Ms. Davis was rccognizcd for choosing talented, competent man agers and giving her staff profes sional responsibility and autonomy while still being available for guid ance and support. Active in her church, Ms. Davis is Chair of Foreign Missions, which provides a link between her commu nity and the health professions and organizes activities to heighten AIDS and drug awareness. She was instrumental in the successful effort to maintain existing volunteer rescue services to Supply in 1991. Ms. Davis is a board member for the local district N.C. Nursing Association and the health occupa tions department at West Brunswick High School. She currently serves on the strategic planning committee of the N.C. Home Care Association and was a member of its standards and ethics committee for two years. New Classes Begin At BCC The continuing education depart ment at Brunswick Community Col lege has announced several new courses for June. All classes will be held on the school's main campus on U.S. 17 north of Supply. An emergency medical techni cian/ambulance attendant re certification course will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the ALS multi purpose room beginning May 28 and continuing through July 14. The course should be of particular interest to rescue volunteers wishing to take the state exam on July 25, according to BCC Continuing Edu cation Director Perry Hall. A registration fee of S30 will be required. The course is free for all police, fire and rescue personnel. r Participants may register on the first night of the course. The instructor will be EMT-1 Lee Shepherd. An instructor methodology course for rescue technicians, EMTs and fire services personnel will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Thurs days June 1 through July 16 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the basic law enforcement training classroom. Cost of the course is S30. No prc rcgistration is required. Ronald Hewett will be the instructor. A Level I Spanish course will be offered June 1 to August 26 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Paul Hernandez will teach the course, which can be applied toward teacher renewal credits.
