The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Bert R. Johnson of
Shallotte. The groom is the son of
Kathleen Powell of Hallsboro and
the late Hosea J. Powell.

Vogels Make Home At Ocean Isle

Mark Vogel are residing at Ocean
Isle Bcach following their marriage
at Grace Brethren Church in Clin
ton, Md., and honeymoon trip to
Ocean City, Md.
The Rev. Jerry D. Bell, pastor of
Shalloue Church of Christ, officiat
ed the Jan. 4 double-ring ceremony.
The bride was given in marriage
by her father, Donald E. Rawe.
Donna Wolfram, sister of the
bride, served as her matron of honor.
Also attending her were Karen
Davis, Celeste Selby, Donna Garner
and Melisa Moss.
Teddy Vogel served as his broth
er's best man. Ushers were John
Vogel and Matt Vogel, brothers of
the groom; Jack Rawc, brother of
the bride; and Kevin Scott. Ben
Wolfram, nephew of the bride, was
nngbearer.
The bride is a graduate of Harding
University with a bachelor of arts de
gree in sociology and childcarc. She
is employed as a tcacher at For Kids
Only Preschool in Shalloue.
T7ie groom is a graduate of the
University of South Carolina and of
Harding University's School of
Biblical Studies. He is manager of
Coastal Paint Center at Ocean Isle
Beach.
Breakfast To Boost
Chris Caudill Fund
Proceeds from a breakfast this
weekend at a Shallot ic restaurant
will benefit the Chris Caudill Bone
Marrow Transplant Fund.
The Sizzling Sirloin Family Steak
House will host the breakfast Sat
urday, June 6, from 6:30 a.m. until
10:30 a.m.
Eggs, sausage, grits, bread, pota
toes and coffee will be served for S3
per plate.
Money raised from the breakfast
will help pay for a bone marrow
transplant for Chris Caudill, a local
cancer victim.
Area residents have raised ap
proximately S36.000 so far, accord
ing to spokesperson Marlcnc Var
nam.

groom.
Escorted by her father, the bride
wore a formal gown of white satin
with long sleeves, sweetheart neck
line and cutwork lace appliques. The
princess bodicc with basque waist
was covered with Alcncon lace,
pearls and sequins. The full skin
with lace-scalloped border formed a
cathedral-length train.
Her headpiece featured a pouf and
elbow-length veil of illusion at
tached to a coronet with tear drop
pearl at the V-shaped center. She
carried a nosegay of lilies and ferns.
Priscilla F. Sullivan, sister of the
bride, was matron of honor. Brides
maids were Jackie P. Jones of New
Haven, Conn., sister of the groom;
Barbara R. Fcatherson and Willa
Dean Williams of Whitcville; and
Candice Johnson of Charlotte, niece
of the bride.
Junior bridesmaids were La
Shonda M. George, daughter of the
bride; and Porsha L. Sullivan of
Charlotte, niece of the bride. Ashley
Wilson, the groom's niece, served as
flower girl.
Attendants wore aqua taffeta
dresses styled with a princess bod
icc, full skirt and tulle overlay and
puffed tulle sleeves. They carried
peach-toned daisies.
Quinzell McMillian, son of the
groom, was best man. Groomsmen
were Jerome Powell of Queens,
N.Y., Orlando Powell and Maurice
Powell of Silver Springs, Md.,
Virgil Powell of Fort Campbell, Ky.,
and Gene Powell, Fort Washington,
Md., brothers of the groom, and
Dwight McMillian of Cleveland,
Ohio. Ring bearer was Perron Sull
ivan, nephew of the bride.
Jacqueline D. Roscboro of Whitc
villc directed the wedding. Nicole
Johnson, niece of the bride, Gcral
dinc Greene and Linda Register at
tended the register.
The reception was held in the
Whiteville City Board of Educa
tion's Civic Room, hosted by Kathy
P. Wilson, sister of the groom;
Sandra Moore, Margie Flowers,
Beverly Drew and Debra Gausc.
The bride holds a B.A. degree in
early childhood education from
Fayettevillc State University and a
master's of education degree from
the University of South Carolina,
Coastal Carolina. She teaches sec
ond grade at Whiteville Primary
School.
The groom received a B.S. degree
in history education and a master's
degree in social studies from N.C.
A&T University at Greensboro. He
teaches social studies and coaches
varsity basketball at West Columbus
High School.
After a cruise to the Bahamas, the
newlywetls are making their home
in Whiteville.
In prcnuptial activities, the staff
of Whiteville Primary School gave a
bridal shower April 1 and the
groom's family entertained with a
rehearsal dinner at Corbctt's.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Milliken of Shallotte Point have announced
the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Mon
ica Ann Milliken, to Mark I- Varnum, son of Sherman and Irene
Varnum of Varnamtown. Their wedding has been set Saturday,
June 27, at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Shallotte. A reception
will follow in the church fellowship hall No invitations will be
sent, however all friends and family are invited.
Seeking Trash
The Coastline Rescue Squad is
seeking donations for its annual
"Trash and Treasure" sale Saturday,
July 4, at the squad building on
Holden Bcch Road (N.C. 130).
The sale will begin early and con
tinue all day.
The squad is now accepting dona
tions of items to be offered for sale,
including clothing, appliances, fur
niture and other household items.

May 2 at Shallotte Presbyterian
Church in Shallotte, with the Rev.
Dan E. Norman and the Rev. Lester
Dattler officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Lyndon L. Holden of
Holden Beach. The groom is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Carson H. Durham
111 of Shallotte.
The bride was given in marriage
by her parents and escorted by her
father.
She wore a portrait collar gown of
white bridal satin overlaid with lace
accented by iridescent beads and
pearls. The semi-cathedral scalloped
train was appliqued with beads and
pearls. For her headpiece she chose a
wreath of pearl sprays and filament
edged pouf veil She carried a bou
quet of white roses accented with ba
bies' breath and white ribbons.
Michelle Leigh Eggimann served
as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were
Robbin Holden and Lesley Holden,
sisters of the bride, and Judith Allen
Durham, sister of the groom. They
wore tea-length amethyst satin dres
ses with a scalloped neckline accent
ed with bows on the shoulders and
back.
Madison Durham, niece of the
groom, served as flower girl.
The groom's father served as his
best man. Groomsmen were Josh
Holden, brother of the bride; Carson
H. Durham IV, brother of the
groom; and Paul McNcary.
Toni Holden of Wilmington was
pianist. Diannc Holden attended the
guest book and Terri Durham at
tended the programs. Alice Robbins
directed the wedding.
The groom's parents gave a re
hearsal buffet dinner at their home
in Shallotte for members of the wed
ding party and close friends.
In other prcnuptial events, miscel

Joyce Intcmann in Raleigh and by
locally Robbin Holden, Lesley Hol
den, Connie Schutte, Charlenc Loyd
and Michelle Eggimann on April 26.
Following a trip to Williamsburg,
Va., the couple will reside in Ral
