AT WEST BRUNSWICK Awards Day Recognizes Senior Achievements BY SUSAN L'SIIKR West Brunswick High School honored iLs seniors during a two hour awards day program Thursday morning. Leading the list of those recog nized were the class's valcdictorian and salutatorian, Terrence (Terry) Nawara of Calabash and Pamela Detrie of Shallotte. Nawara, a National Merit Scho larship Finalist, has accepted an ap pointment to the U.S. Naval Aca demy at Annapolis. Md. He was the only student in Brunswick County to qualify for a Presidential Award for Excellence in Math this year. He was recognized as the school's outstanding math student, and re ceived awards in journalism and ad vanced chemistry as well. Miss Detrie was recognized as the school's female National Scholar/ Athlete by the U.S. Army. She also received scholarships from the Shallotte and 13th District Masonic lodges and recognition for her ach ievement in physics, advanced che mistry and an. Principal Harry E. "Ed" Lemon SBflHI praised the seniors and the "most co operative" senior class with whom he has been assocatcd and as the one with "the least academic problems." As of Friday, noted Guidance Counselor Judy Harris, class mem bers had received SI 70, (XX) in schol arship and other forms of financial aid. Other special recognitions were as follows: Donnic S. Warren was recognized as the male National Scholar/Athlete by the U.S. Army. LANCE SMALI. The U.S. Marine Corps recognized Alwin Lancc and Meg Small as Distinguished Athletes.
